Barr Engineering Process Engineer - Senior Level - Iron Ore Focus (Hybrid) in Hibbing, Minnesota

Job Description: Summary: The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams and provide mineral and chemical process, extractive metallurgical, and related technical and engineering support for a variety of applications. Work may include conducting process design and analysis, detailed process mass and energy balance modeling, and laboratory and pilot plant testing; developing process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams; developing technical reports and equipment specifications; estimating capital and operating costs; and sizing process piping and equipment. Work scope will also include development of feasibility-level studies and conduct of due diligence reviews. The chosen candidate will work on projects involving both ferrous and nonferrous minerals, including base and precious metals, industrial minerals, and evaporites-with a focus on iron ore processing. The work will also include management opportunities for practice development and mentoring. The work may require short-term, out-of-town assignments and hands-on fieldwork. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, metallurgy, mineral processing, or materials science 20+ years of related experience Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain within one year (or sufficient credentials to serve as Qualified Person or Competent Person as per the United States S-K 1300, Canadian NI 43-101, or Australasian JORC mining project reporting guidelines) Experience working at industrial sites either as an operating engineer or as a consultant Experience working on processes related to hard rock magnetic and/or non-magnetic iron recovery Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative A valid U.S. passport and willingness and ability to travel outside the U.S. and Canada for work assignments, some of which could be weeks or months at a time A flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs Familiarity with basic Microsoft Office software packages, especially Excel Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Preferred Qualifications: Experience working on processes related to uranium recovery Experience working on processes related to renewable fuels such as ethanol, bio-diesel, or renewable diesel Master's degree in chemical or metallurgical engineering Experience in hydrometallurgy related to gold, copper, and other precious or base metal processes Experience conducting Process Hazard Analysis and similar evaluations for process design Experience conducting construction observation, plant commissioning, and plant startup Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor more junior staff members Working knowledge of Spanish A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Hibbing, Minnesota, office. NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided.
