SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for teaching Medical Laboratory Science students how to perform laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells and tissues. Identification of microorganisms, analysis of chemical contents of fluids, cross matching of blood for transfusion, aseptic technique, and other complex laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases are key elements of instruction. Preparation of student laboratory exercises and laboratory set up/breakdown and working with laboratory section supervisors and staff, as needed to support MLS students and training program needs. Responsible for scheduling clinical experiences for each student within the Clinical Pathology laboratories. Responsible for working with Supervisor to recruit, educate and advise MLS students and ensure MLS program meets/exceeds NAACLS accreditation requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or related field with 3-5 years of clinical laboratory background working in a laboratory required. MLS (ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society of Clinical Pathology Certification, CLT (HHS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Health and Human Services Certification.

ASCP Certification required. Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex. National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicant is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Successful completion of the prerequisites defined in the Department of Pathology Personnel Policy #8, Laboratory Personnel Achievement Ladder.

Good customer service and communication skills required.

Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree with prior teaching experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Able to stand frequently, walk frequently, sit constantly.

Able to lift/carry 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to push/pull 0-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to climb occasionally, reach constantly.

Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
