Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Driver / AS1134P in Hattiesburg, Mississippi

This position is for a Driver - District Office with a company located in Perkinston, Mississippi.

Job Description: The Driver is responsible for the operation and minor maintenance of college-owned equipment to include, but not limited to; buses, vehicles, and equipment. The incumbent reports directly to the Transportation Supervisor -- District Office.

Job DutiesL

  1. Serve as chief operator/driver of a college bus while transporting individuals on college-approved trips in a safe and timely manner.

  2. Be responsible for buses, vehicles, and equipment assigned to him/her for operation and report any issues to the Superintendent of Transportation or the appropriate college personnel.

  3. Maintain maintenance records on buses, vehicles and equipment.

  4. Change oil filters and perform other service tasks on buses, vehicles and equipment as required.

  5. Repair or assist in repairing of buses, vehicles and/or equipment deemed to be repairable by the Superintendent of Transportation.

  6. Wash, vacuum, clean, fuel and perform a maintenance check on assigned college vehicles for daily operation.

  7. Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner that reflects well on the college at all times.

  8. Abide by the college's Drug Free Workplace policy to include while on college assigned trips.

  9. Abide by all college policies and procedures.

  10. Possess and maintain in good standing a Mississippi Commercial Class A or B License with the mandatory required endorsements on himself/herself at all times.

  11. Maintain an updated and valid Department of Transportation Medical Card.

  12. Maintain daily trip logs of mileage, number of students, trip destinations, and other requested/required information.

  13. Utilize college vehicles for official college business only.

  14. Complete at least 15 clock hours of approved employee development annually.

  15. Be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays.

  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications:

(M1) Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

(M2) Possess a Mississippi Commercial Driver's License (CDL) -- Class A with Passenger (P) endorsement or a Class B with a Passenger (P) and Airbrake endorsement.

(M3) Be capable of lifting at least 50lbs.

(M4) Be eligible to be covered by college fleet insurance.

(M5) Be capable of Traveling overnight on a regular basis and driving long routes when necessary according to the standards of the Department of Transportation.

(M6) Posses effective oral and written communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

(D1) Possess certification and /or experience as a mechanic and/or possess other automotive safety and repair certifications.

(D2) Prior experience operating large construction equipment.

(D3) Associate Degree.
