Microsoft Corporation Senior Manufacturing Engineer in Hanoi, Vietnam

In this role, you will be responsible for factory start up, transfer and qualify sustaining product manufacturing process to new factory. Driving engineering excellence to solve complex problems that directly impact final product quality, cost and delivery of Microsoft devices. You will be a key member of the Technical Operations team and will partner closely with, Mechanical, Quality, Test Engineering and our Manufacturing partners to launch product flawlessly and sustain product meet target until product end of life.

Monitors and maintains portions of the manufacturing process with minimal input from senior engineers. Reads component/sub-component/device specification sheets and interprets moderately complex details required to produce, assemble, and/or qualify hardware features with minimal input from senior engineers. Uses predictive modeling technique to inform and optimize manufacturing process design choices for a well-defined product, part, component, sub-assembly, or final assembly with minimal input from senior engineers. Builds, and validates products, components, or assemblies independently. Maintains contact with factories and suppliers to drive yield and continuous improvements into mass production and/or repair processes with minimal guidance. Identifies common project risks at the outset of a project and develops plans to address those risks with minimal input from senior engineers. Develops qualification process and criteria to calibrate product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work independently , directing and setting priorities for manufacturing partner to solve complex design,  manufacturing and material challenges, relentlessly drive cost reduction and yield improvement. 

  • Early partner with NPI team to identifydesign , process, tools that are new, unique, or difficult and resolve manufacturing challenges by following best DFx practices and principles. 

  • Work closely with manufacturing partner to develop new or improved assembly fixture and automation system to enhance product quality and production efficiency. 

  • Drive clear and accurate communications and recommendations to peers and senior management by distilling complex technical challenges, outlining options, and providing supporting data 

  • Perform regular process audit to ensure factory executebase on specification.  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams identify manufacturing process risk and challenges, provide technical solution to resolve and mitigate  

  • Generate best practices guidelines and documentation to enable efficiencies in future hardware development and sustaining activities. 

  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams to meet schedule, cost, and performance-related objectives. 

  • Stay current and versed in emerging technologies, materials, methods and manufacturing processes.. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair

  • OR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in a manufacturing environment /repair

  • OR 7+ years equivalent experience

  • OR equivalent experience

  • Strong technical aptitude and experience with SMT and electro-mechanical assembly related manufacturing process

  • Demonstrated ability in product and statistical process control, MSA/GRR, part characterization, structured problem solving, root cause and defect/failure analysis, FMEA, DOE, FEA, reliability testing, core and advanced metrology, statistical data analysis.

  • Proficiency with statistical analysis, including usage of tools such as JMP or Minitab.

  • Proficiency with 3D design tools and other CAD suites. Knowledge in Pro-E/Creo and SolidWorks is a plus.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and structured problem-solving approach; Experience leveraging manufacturing data and field return data to identify design and assembly issues and subsequently drive continuous quality.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 7+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair

  • OR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment

  • OR Doctorate in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair

  • OR 9+ years equivalent experience.

  • Patent or track record of engineering excellency.

  • Design for Manufacturability, Failure/Data Analysis, Design of Experiments and statistical analysis using Six Sigma principles.

  • NPI (New Product Introduction) and manufacturing operations experience.

  • Experience in the Automation System Development, high accuracy system will be plus.

  • Automation Qualification Process, JMP/ MiniTab tool will be a plus.
