Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician Requisition Number: 2025-1170-03 S&ME is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic entry-level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to become part of our Construction Services team in Columbus, Ohio. As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will primarily work outdoors, testing and inspecting materials such as soil, concrete, and asphalt to ensure quality and safety. Project and Document Analysis: Comprehend project specifications before fieldwork; precisely document observations and test outcomes related to construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials. Metafield Application: Effectively handle and input data using field and laboratory information systems. Tool Maintenance: Ensure field and lab equipment are calibrated and comply with industry standards. Special Inspection Monitoring: Adhere to International Building Code (IBC) standards for testing and inspecting construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials. Stakeholder Interaction: Communicate with management, contractors, and clients to report project progress and address any issues. Who You Are: You have a High School diploma/GED You have experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials You have previous field technician or landfill liner experience, a plus You have one(1) or more active certifications, a plus: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language You have math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure Working Conditions and Physical Demands: You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as: Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment) Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites Traveling out-of-town and overnight for assignments is required We Are S&ME: At S&ME, we've spent over 50 years providing innovative solutions in geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction materials disciplines.
