Web Content Management Systems (CMS) Architect, Full-time Permanent Position, AFT PSS2
Description
The Web Content Management Systems (CMS) Architect will leverage technical knowledge and organizational skills to comprehensively provide support for one or more CMS platforms that power the Rowan University website and related web-based initiatives. The position reports to the Director of Web Strategy and Development for the Rowan University Web Services team. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is to be expected. An option for remote work may be available.
Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions
Maintain day-to-day operations of the CMS platform(s), including technical configuration, third-party integrations, user management, and ongoing maintenance for the Rowan University website.
Engage and collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into well-architected, sustainable, and scalable solutions that best leverage our CMS platform and website technologies.
Establish processes to organize various technical components, content modules, and data structures within the Content Management System.
Collaborate with frontend and backend developers to ensure smooth integration of CMS-driven content into websites and applications.
Conduct thorough testing of CMS upgrades and implementations to ensure functionality, performance, and security meet organizational standards.
Provide technical guidance and support to content editors in managing and publishing content through the CMS interface.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to CMS configuration, module integration, and content publishing.
Document technical specifications, implementation details, and configuration guidelines for CMS integrations and customizations.
Stay up to date with digital trends and best practices to continually improve the underlying data structure of the university website.
Provide support for other various Rowan University website projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
At least four (4) years of professional position-related experience.
Proficiency in configuring and customizing CMS platforms, such as Cascade, Drupal/Backdrop, WordPress, or similar.
Strong understanding of content modeling concepts and experience designing/organizing data structures, content modules, and relationships.
Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) for managing configuration files and custom code.
Knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML/XHTML, CSS, Sass, JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Understanding of web standards, accessibility, optimization, usability, layout aesthetics, and SEO.
Ability to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong customer service orientation.
Preferred
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment using project management and repository management tools (e.g. GitHub, GitLab, or Jira).
Knowledge of Unix/Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL, and other backend server technologies.
Experience supporting web systems in a higher education environment.
Proven ability to stay current with rapidly-changing technologies.
