We are looking for a Sr. Production Manager to join our Monomers team in Geismar, LA.

Come create chemistry with us!

BASF Monomers is a leading supplier of isocyanates, inorganics, polyamides, and ammonia. Our products are used in many downstream applications including the production of foams, adhesives, textiles, automobiles, food production, paper, packaging, wire, cable, clothing, and so much more. Monomers go into the production of countless household and industrial goods and make a positive impact on people's lives every day. As an essential business in BASF’s overall Verbund (interconnected value chain) system, Team Monomers is committed to help our customers reach their sustainability targets by expanding our portfolio of lower CO2 footprint products and circular solutions.

As the Senior Production Manager of the MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) unit, you will lead the production team in safely and efficiently producing the various MDI products within specifications, on budget and ensuring compliance with our safety regulations and environmental permits. The MDI value chain in Geismar is currently experiencing significant growth, with new assets starting up in 2026. This role will be critical in successfully commissioning, integrating and starting up the new plant with support from the MDI3 project team and global technology group.

As a Sr. Production Manager, you create chemistry by...

  • Leveraging your in-depth operations and production experience to establish plant goals, objectives, clear priorities, and operational budgets to assure continuous improvement at all levels of the organization, while ensuring compliance with all BASF process safety requirements. You will closely work and coordinate all unit activities with the MDI Technology Manager and manage and monitor budgeting changes for production accounts.

  • Creating an open, feedback oriented and accountable culture where your team can bring up new ideas, suggestions for improvement, safety concerns and clearly understand what they are responsible for and own the results.

  • Clearly displaying your unwavering commitment to workplace health and safety, accepting accountability for daily environmental & safety compliance and implementation of the incident investigation process. This includes supporting corporate PSM/RMP/RC audits and following up on incident investigations, root cause analysis, action items, documentation and sharing lessons learned for incidents occurring in your unit.

  • Interfacing with the CM Isocyanates Global Technology Team (CMT) and sister units in other regions to support knowledge transfer, sharing issues and lessons learned from operational incidents or near misses and developing comprehensive technology solutions.

  • Using your leadership skills to coach and develop existing and new personnel (salaried and hourly) into high performing and agile teams. A big focus is currently on effectively utilizing the training roles to develop detailed and clear plans to achieve the necessary qualifications and training, coaching, and developmental opportunities for operators to run the existing plants and prepare for the new investments. Developing a pipeline of future shift supervisors, production supervisors and production specialists will be a key aspect of this role in order to prepare and implement succession plans. In line with this, you will participate in recruiting, interviewing, and selection of employees, as well as conducting performance management reviews with your staff.

  • Drawing on your past production experiences to support process optimization activities, participating and communicating in the macro production planning and scheduling (S&OP) process, interfacing with Supply Chain and supporting Quality and ISO processes.

  • Utilizing your strong organizational skills to support implementation and follow-up on maintenance processes, outages, pit-stops and larger turnarounds (long-term depreciated TARs).

If you have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or other technical field

  • 10+ years of experience working either in production or supporting production at a Chemical, Petrochemical, or refining manufacturing environment

  • 5+ years of experience supervising a team. (Preferred: Production, maintenance, engineering, or projects unit/department with a minimum 20+ employees)
