Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Associates degree in Fire Science, Public/Business Administration or related field.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of firefighting experience in a municipal fire department (city, district, or other similar organization), including five (5) years of supervisory experience as a company officer, at least at the level of Fire Lieutenant.
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021 Fire Officer II Certification.
- Possession of a valid chauffeurs license issued by the State of Iowa with no suspension or revocations within the last five (5) years. Must be insurable and maintain insurability; meet the Citys motor vehicle policy requirements.
- Must pass a post-employment offer background check, physical examination and drug screen.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English with other employees, businesses and community members (orally in person and over the telephone; in writing using electronic devices and handwritten). Bilingual a plus, but not required.
Special Requirements
- Must be a current Iowa certified EMT (registered with the Iowa Department of Public Health) or National Registry EMT or acquire within six (6) months of placement and maintain for the duration of employment.
- NFPA Fire Instructor 1
- Certified in NIMS 700, ICS 100, 200, 300.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Fire Science, Public/Business Administration or related field.
- Iowa certified or National Registry Paramedic.
- Experience as a Shift Commander.
- National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program graduate
