POSITION SUMMARY:

Advanced Energy, Plasma Power RF Engineering is looking for an experienced and proven multi-discipline Engineering Manager for its RF Product Development team to manage the product launch of RF generator products and systems used in Plasma Power applications. The Engineering Manager is responsible to lead a multi-disciplined product delivery team of RF, electrical, mechanical and software Engineers and coordinate with other cross functional teams to launch new RF generator products and systems. Resources can be directly managed or matrixed depending on the scope of the project. The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading resources devoted to technology and product development projects while delivering on time to commitments. Position has high visibility with Sr. Management and involves direct customer interaction. Some travel maybe required to customer sites. Ideal candidates will have a system engineering focus to consider the product, interfaces, and the system configurations needed to solve our customers problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Depending on the program / project assigned, development could be driving internal new product development or customized customer products and systems. Role varies slightly depending on the focus.

  • Provide engineering leadership to the team with systems focus for the design of RF products and systems.

  • Refine high level requirements and allocate detailed requirements to components and ensure scope aligns to customer needs.

  • Communicate goals and objectives to your team and make sure everyone is aligned on the requirements and commitments to our customers.

  • Experience developing an agile approach to functional deliverables to ensure the most important or critical functionality is prioritized.

  • Align on risk management for when new technology is ready and how much risk we are willing to absorb into the program.

  • Implement best practices within a cross function design team to support appropriate level of process and review of the design process.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring for a growing team of design engineers within the US and abroad. Including staff planning to support current and future needs.

  • Responsible for execution of programs to our Product Development Process (PDP).

  • Create and/or support project documents such as product requirement documents, functional design specifications, project plans, test plans, and similar engineering project documents.

  • Communicate and report out progress to leadership.

  • Build peer to peer relationships within AE and with key customer technologists.

  • Work with other cross functional teams such as our product management, NPI, purchasing, quality, program management, finance, safety, and production.

  • Work with our advanced development team to review technology readiness to launch into new products.

  • Work with customer teams to align on requirements and scope, support integration onto customer systems, and respond to issues and escalations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • On-site; Standard office environment

  • Occasional travel domestic and international

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Critical thinking skills with a focus on quality, safety, cost, and delivery schedules.

  • Proven record of getting products to market.

  • Strong collaboration skills and attitude.

  • Ability to travel within US and abroad for short periods of time to support customers.

Preferred:

  • The ability to assist in analysis, prototyping, simulation, and validation of circuit designs. RF or Power experience ideal.

  • Programming or scripting skills such as assembly, C, Python, etc. for microcontrollers and/or processors and/or basic skills in Verilog or VHDL would be a plus.

  • Familiar with UL /CSA compliance.

  • Experience with JIRA, Smartsheet, MS Project or other project management tools.

  • PMP or Agile credentials.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • 8-10 years’ experience in related industries preferably working with power electronics, but other relevant industry experience will be considered.

  • Prior management experience not required but must have experience in a project leadership role.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading and managing engineering teams with software resources following agile principles.

  • Experience testing and debug using common lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, function generators, JTAG or similar tools, etc.

EDUCATION:

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science (or similar) technical degree.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science (or similar) technical degree.

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $130,000 to $175,000 per year.
