Job Summary
The Student Engagement Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing programs that foster student engagement and enhance campus life. This position works closely with student organizations, campus departments, and external partners to create engaging, and meaningful co-curricular experiences for students. The Student Engagement Manager will assist with policies, standards, and goals for the department which are consistent with the mission and goals of the University and the Division of Student Affairs.
This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Engagement and has an anticipated start date is July 1, 2025.
Responsibilities*
Event Planning
- Plan and implement a robust calendar of student activities and experiences including but not limited to: drop-in events that foster community, arts and entertainment events, workshops & speakers, off-campus excursions, leadership and life skill development.
- Provide support for university special events and traditions (Homecoming, Wolverine Welcome, Ask Me Stations, Maize & Blue Days, etc.).
- Serve as a consultant and work with departments and student organizations to develop campus programs that are collaborative in nature and promote student involvement and learning opportunities.
- Support the development and execution of leadership programs.
- Assist with programs and events geared toward the Fraternity & Sorority community.
- Ensure that department programming serves UM-Flint's diverse student population including commuters, non-traditional and graduate students, and online students.
Student Engagement
- Partner with various UM-Flint departments and community organizations to co-develop initiatives that support student engagement.
- Engage in appropriate research and assessment on student needs. Conduct learning assessments, program evaluations, and student interest surveys on a regular basis.
- Develop databases and other records necessary to maintain longitudinal data on the efficacy of programs.
- Develop marketing strategies and provide direction for the creation and dissemination of public-relations and marketing materials promoting programs to the campus community, including use of website and web-based tools, newsletters and campus-wide media outlets, and social media.
Advising
- Serve as the primary advisor for the Campus Activities Board (CAB).
- Assist with recruiting CAB members, scheduling and facilitating CAB meetings and overall event execution.
- Facilitate leadership training and workshops for CAB members.
- Lead professional development opportunities (e.g. NACA Conference delegation).
- Oversee all CAB financial matters in accordance with university policy and procedure.
Administrative
Support the University of Michigan-Flint's commitment to being an engaged, culturally inclusive campus through program development and individual professional development.
Serve as administrator in student engagement software (CampusConnections).
Develop and manage budgets for programs and services. Administer programs within assigned fiscal resources.
Assist with department assessment and reporting.
Represent the office on appropriate university committees, meetings, and events.
Promote student engagement at Admissions and Orientation events.
