Special Information

  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at the Flagstaff Mountain campus with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

  • This position requires working evenings and weekends on a regular basis, as well as occasional work travel.

Job Description

The Center for Native American & Indigenous Futures (CNAIF) Director is responsible for the development and implementation of events, programming, and support for Indigenous Recruitment, Retention, and Graduation support, including support for faculty and staff at NAU. Responsible for designing and implementing communication systems for the Office of Native American & Indigenous Advancement (ONAIA) and in collaboration with the Office of Indigenous Student Success (OISS).

Leadership and Partnerships - 45%

  • Acts as an Ambassador for the CNAIF building, fostering a welcoming environment for students, staff, faculty and community members.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Indigenous Student Success to enhance support for students.
  • Designs and implements events at CNAIF that focus on Indigenous culture and histories, academic preparation, social outreach, and health and well-being, that benefit both NAU and the Flagstaff community.
  • Develops and oversees programming for the Indigenous pathways and recruitment activities to promote recruitment and retention.
  • Implements and manages the CNAIF Elder\'s Program; hires, trains, and supervises CNAIF Elders. Develops and organizes related events for Elders Program.
  • Builds partnerships with Tribal leaders and schools to promote recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Leads building tours and educates visitors about NAU programs and recruiting with support and assistance from SDAS, OISS, and student employees.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of CNAIF programs and recommends strategies for continuous improvement.

Building Management - 20%

  • Oversees the mission, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Center for Native American & Indigenous Futures (CNAIF) including building operations and maintenance.
  • Manages and oversees room reservations and events to ensure efficient space utilization.
  • Manages office and shared spaces, ensuring proper maintenance and availability.
  • Handles custodial and facility maintenance ensuring the building and grounds are well-maintained.
  • Maintains a key log for the building.
  • Develops and provides training and guidance on emergency information and procedures.
  • Assists with managing the development and expansion of the new CNAIF building.
  • Serves as primary point of contact, coordinating with NAU offices and units for building safety and maintenance.
  • Conducts weekly building inspections to identify maintenance needs, service requirements, or potential safety issues.
  • Acts as the liaison and information exchange hub between building departments, occupants, project managers, contractors, fire inspectors, and other professionals.
  • Complies with the NAU Building Manager\'s Handbook and actively participates in weekly Building Managers\' meetings.

Supervision - 15%

  • Hires, trains and supervises CNAIF Indige-Jack Student employees.
  • Assigns tasks and follows up on assignments.
  • Organizes and maintains student schedules.
  • Provides regular feedback to students on performance or any issues.
  • Trains students and develops handbooks for processes.

Communication Strategy - 10%

Develops and executes a comprehensive outreach and communication strategy to raise awareness and support for CNAIF.

Collaborates with the Office of Indigenous Student Success (OISS) and NAU Marketing to enhance communication efforts through ONAIA websites, social media, and other outlets.
