FAIRFAX COUNTY Intake Coordinator (Social Services Specialist II) in Fairfax, Virginia

This position includes a signing bonus of $2,500 (full-time) for new county hires.

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Intake Coordinator is a merit position working 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday).

Under general supervision of the Quality Assurance Supervisor, performs the duties and responsibilities below:

  • Monitors requests for clinical services daily and respond promptly to requests for services
  • Answers questions about clinical services processes
  • Conducts initial screenings assess for danger, and safety plan
  • Provides information and referrals
  • Determines scheduling and location needs
  • Obtains informed consent and other initial intake documentation, and uploads these forms to clients charts in their electronic health record
  • Creates electronic health records for new clients
  • Processes records requests in collaboration with the appropriate clinical services staff; send release of information forms to clients in response to these requests when applicable
  • Assists in the collection of quality assurance data on a monthly basis
  • Prepares clients for telehealth services and troubleshoot challenges with access
  • Assigns persons seeking services to the counselor best suited to meet needs within the clients schedule and timeframe
  • Maintains contact with persons waiting for services and schedule an intake appointment at the earliest availability
  • Coordinates the scheduling of intake appointments on behalf of counselors
  • Performs triage according to urgency of client need and prioritize clients accordingly, maintaining equity in promptness of assignment and balanced staff caseloads
  • Communicates closely with clinical services staff, supervisors, and administrative staff
  • Communicate with persons in their preferred language, in English or Spanish or through an interpreter in other languages using interpretation services as necessary
  • Communicates with referring partners, including behavioral health and advocacy, to facilitate referral to and from DSVS
  • Documents all communications with clients in the electronic health record and in within-office workflow management systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the department and/or division
  • Participates in on-call staff rotation for the Domestic and Sexual Violence 24-hour Hotline, Lethality Assessment Protocol crisis line, and hospital accompaniment

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work;
  • Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence dynamics;
  • Ability to analyze case information and to reach sound decisions on the basis of such information;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to use automated technology to establish and maintain case records;
  • Ability to maintain professional ethics and confidentiality of client information;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals;
  • Ability to schedule and manage workload sufficiently to meet deadlines.

Please note for this requisition, experience in psychotherapy (e.g. counseling, clinical psychology, or marriage and family therapy) counts as social work experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, and a Child Protective Services Registry check to the satisfaction of the employer.
