Job Description
WHAT'S THE JOB?
This position is a key member of the Dexterra Group business and reports directly to the Director of Estimating. The Estimator works in a team environment developing estimates for various projects throughout Canada for the Workforce Accommodations, Forestry and Energy Services business unit as well as the Integrated Facilities Management business unit. Project values will have an annual department volume of $900MM+.
The Estimator is responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates, including labour, materials, transportation, and 3rd party subcontracting. The Estimator also assists with our historical cost analysis, establishing unit rates, risk management and other related activities. Estimating accuracy is critical to the profitability of the business, as under-estimates may cause significant financial losses and over-estimates may result in the inability to win contracts.
Develop Project Estimates:
Works within a team to aid in determining the bid strategies required on each opportunity.
Reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attends pre-bid meetings etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
Coordinate with Sales to ensure adequate communication regarding client expectations.
Evaluates and recommends allowances for indirect costs, project risks, escalation, and contingency.
Coordinate with Indigenous Relations to understand our partnerships and costs associated.
Work with Operations partners & Director of Estimating in reviewing/approving cost estimates.
Reviews their cost estimate details to ensure accuracy and completeness
*Continuous Improvement: *
Work with estimating team in building / updating cost estimate models to steam-line the bid process.
Completes feasibility cost analysis on alternate work methods and/or products.
Completes post-bid analyses on jobs once complete and communicates lessons learned.
Produce and analyze monthly job cost reports of existing jobs to compare actual results with expected results with the aim of improving the estimating process.
Other Duties & responsibilities:
Ensure alignment with the sales process and proposal team.
Learn and understands safety procedures of workplace.
Participates in presentations to corporate management and clients as required.
Assists in the review of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required.
Other similar duties as required.
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Technical training in construction or equivalent combination of technical training and estimating experience.
Relevant post-secondary education preferred.
Strong Office Suite skills especially spreadsheets and word processing software.
Previous work experience in Workforce Accommodations or Facility Management considered an asset, but not required.
Experience in commercial construction estimating considered an asset.
Ability to read and interpret building specifications and blueprints.
Mathematical skills and analytical skills.
Ability to use cost-estimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Ability to demonstrate organizational, time-management and decision-making skills.
Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.
Ability to manage a fluctuating workload and set priorities to meet deadlines.

Working Arrangement: Office environment with a flexible work schedule, potentially requiring work on evenings and weekends. Trained, as necessary, in required safety and operational protocols to be on the Production floor.
