Abbott Senior Network Engineer in Dublin, Ireland
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION
Our location in Dublin, IE (Cherrywood) currently has an opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer Candidate is responsible for solution design, implementation, and operational support of Abbott’s global Wide Area Network (WAN) services. This position will serve as the technical lead for projects involving complex planning for all Abbott network infrastructure including detailed design creation, proposals, analysis, project preparation/implementation/support and troubleshooting complex networks. Responsible for timely interaction with customers of the platform, peer technologists, and senior management. The ideal candidate will have experience in WAN and advanced knowledge of routing protocols with a focus in SDWAN. The candidate will also have general knowledge of Data Center Networking, Routing, Switching, Wireless Access, Firewall Controls, Load Balancing, Security Infrastructure, Remote Access Connectivity Solutions (Cisco AnyConnect, Zscaler ZPA) & Network Segmentation technologies.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshoot WAN, SD-WAN, LAN, WLAN including routers, and other network related hardware.
Design and continuously improve network monitoring and observability capabilities.
Proficient in the following protocols and technologies: EIGRP OSFP BGP GRE IPSEC MPLS STP HSRP OMP NAT and VPN
Defines the WAN architecture and hardware requirements for project proposals.
Design, execute, support day to day service requests.
Participate and lead large scale network refresh projects as well as divisional expansion projects.
Design and Manage Network Capacity and Performance
Evaluates and identifies opportunities for network performance and functionality improvement within the enterprise network.
Participate in the development efforts to bring automation into the network environment.
Responsible for compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, documentation, and industry best practices.
Successfully negotiate technical design and deployment strategy with key stakeholder and consumers of the service.
Serve as the platform technical subject matter expert and provide consulting support to the business and end-user organizations.
Produce and maintain timely, accurate engineering documentation.
Partners with Abbott’s Cybersecurity organization in conducting security and vulnerability assessments to ensure compliance with corporate security policies and adherence to best practices.
Integrates technical expertise with communication, leadership, and business skills in a team environment.
Collaborate and mentor Network Operations in resolving network incident tickets in a timely manner.
Create and improve playbooks for Network Operations to limit escalations.
Troubleshoot network issues including but not limited to poor network performance, complex routing issues, connectivity issues and failures, and hardware failures.
Analyze WAN traffic – determine top talkers, source/target devices, and identify types of traffic.
Collaborate with a variety of circuit vendors and other in-house departments to order/deliver/validate/test new circuits and place them into production.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, resolve/ troubleshoot major incidents, while adhering to deadlines
Demonstrates mastery of the concepts and theory of network security, and possess adept knowledge of data networking, including expertise in switching, routing, directory services, and TCP/IP fundamentals.
Demonstrates knowledge of routing protocols BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, OMP etc,
Demonstrates knowledge of security protocols as well as means for compromising systems based on known vulnerabilities.
Demonstrates a strong customer-centric approach and excellent communications skills.
Responsible for the global landscape of the Abbott network and security infrastructure.
Keeps abreast of industry trends and makes architecture roadmaps and or recommendations based on these trends.
Ability to continually develop technical skills in current technologies and maintain industry standards to best support the ever-changing business needs.
Minimum Education & Experience
Required: bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Telecommunication, or other related field – or combination of experience / education.
Preferred: MS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Telecommunications. Active Certifications: CCNA , CCNP, CCSE, CCIE.
8+ years of Networking experience.
Multilingual a plus
Experience in regulated environments a plus
Experience / Training Needed
8+ years network experience with multinational enterprises of 5000+ users.
8+ years designing enterprise scale routing and switching environments, MPLS / VPN, SD-WAN, WLAN, Cisco ISE and Identity/Authentication solutions, Intrusion Prevention, Cloud Security (Zscaler and other security solutions), Firewalls, Monitoring Tools, Network Topologies, Load balancing, and WAN acceleration / QoS and Cisco ACI
Experience in healthcare related industries is a plus.
