Job Posting Summary

The Associate Director of Sponsored Programs provides assistance to the Senior Director of Sponsored Programs and the University community in pursuit of government grants and private foundations, and also provides guidance and assistance to principal investigators and project directors to help assure efficient administration and implementation of government grants awarded to the University.

Responsibilities:

A. Administrative/Technical/Service

  • Researches and identifies government grant funding opportunities on ongoing basis and shares this information with Senior Director of Sponsored Programs and Associate Provost for Research, Grants, and Academic Initiatives.

  • Reviews and interprets Requests for Proposals (RFPs), proposal guidelines, and submission deadlines generated by funding agencies.

  • Disseminates information about grant funding and related contracts to appropriate faculty and administrators, and provides assistance in interpreting RFPs and proposal guidelines.

  • Provides assistance to faculty, administrators, and other members of the University community in their pursuit of specific grants, including grants-related training, proposal development, and grant budget development.

  • Writes, edits, and proofreads government grants proposals in collaboration with faculty, administrators, and the Senior Director of Sponsored Programs.

  • Provides guidance and assistance in post-award grant management to principal investigators and project directors. Collaborates with the Grants Accounting Office (Finance) to help assure ongoing and efficient financial management of government and private foundation grants awarded to the University.

  • Reviews, edits, and submits interim and final grant reports in collaboration with principal investigators, grant project directors, and administrators for funded government grants.

  • Compiles information about grant opportunities on regular, ongoing basis for internal and external constituencies, and produces and distributesGrants Alerton a quarterly basis.

  • Assists Senior Director of Sponsored Programs and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with policies and procedures of the OSP, Academic Affairs, and the University including but not limited to the University's Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Master's Degree preferred

  • BA/BS degree required

EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Has a minimum of three years of grant writing and grant management experience

  • Possesses a thorough understanding of federal, state, and municipal funding agencies regulations concerning grant applications and awards; and a familiarity with private foundations (preferably those operating in the higher education sector)

  • Demonstrates initiative and demonstrates interpersonal, written and oral communication, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills

  • Possesses and maintains computer proficiency in MS Office, and working familiarity with Grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, NIH ERA Commons, and US ED e-grant systems

  • Knowledge of Banner (or similar university enterprise system) desirable but not required

  • Demonstrates detail and service orientation, and ability to work independently

  • Ability to travel to various locations if required

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
