Description
Under general supervision, services and repairs coin and electronic card operated parking meters in the field and in a meter repair shop.
Examples of Duties
Operates a utility vehicle and patrols streets, parking lots and other meter areas to service and repair meters.
Detects meter faults and malfunctions and performs mechanical and electronic repairs and adjustments.
Installs meter pipes and paints meters.
Installs or removes meter heads or casings and frees jammed vault doors using a key or drill.
Repairs and rebuilds meter casings, vault doors and coin boxes.
Adjusts or replaces coin box brackets.
Installs and performs minor repairs to coin box locks.
Converts meters to automatic operation by installing special parts or devices.
Maintains an inventory of meters on a utility vehicle for individual routes.
Operates hand held computer to input and collect information from electronic meters and generate standardized reports identifying vandalism, heavy damage and/or accidents involving meters.
Disassembles, cleans, lubricates, adjusts, replaces and tests meters and meter mechanisms.
Operates gasoline/electric powered jackhammers and sledgehammers and other gasoline/electric powered equipment in breaking up concrete.
Installs and removes parking signs and rate plates.
Mixes and pours cement.
Removes debris, concrete and trash as required .
Performs general painting, marking and striping.
Maintains cleanliness of work area.
Removes and replaces light bulbs in shop area of office building, as required .
Performs light duty lawn care to maintain aesthetics and/or make parking meters accessible, as required .
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):
High School graduation or GED.
One (1) year of experience in the repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Qualifications (preferred):
C ompletion of coursework in general shop.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
• Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
