Estimator Job Description

Job Summary

The Estimator is responsible for analyzing project requirements and preparing cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and any other expenses involved in a project. Knowledge of hollow metal manufactures and products is preferred (i.e. Steelcraft, Republic, Ceco, Curries).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Review Bid Invitations and List of Projects
• Manage Bid Invitations
• Gathers list of upcoming projects to bid which are reviewed weekly
• Picks up plans and specs to bid from
• Does a take-off of the doors, frames and hardware for each project
• Collaborates with internal staff, architects and/or contractors with questions for each project
• Review and compile all cost estimates into the bid
• Calculate the cost of materials, labor and any other services required for the project
• Keeps up on addendums for each bid
• Enters the take-off into Estimating Sheets and enters the prices and discounts for the project
• Other duties as assigned Skills and Qualifications
• Knowledge of industry standards and materials
• Proficiency in cost estimating software (i.e. Procore, Bluebeam, EPWS - eMullion) as well as Adobe and FoxIt
• Ability to build relationships with contractors
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under deadlines Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Bachelors degree is preferred
• Extensive on-the-job training
