The Center for Innovative Design and Engineering (CIDE) is a program within the Department of Bioengineering, College of Engineering, Design and Computing, University of Colorado Denver|Anschutz Medical Campus. Our mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their highest potential through the use of assistive technology, by providing exemplary clinical services, consultation, education, research and innovative technology development. This is a .40 part-time University Staff (non-classified) IT Technician position that will work at our Auraria Campus and Downtown CU Denver location to support our projects.

Job Description

IT Technician

What you will do:

  • Assist in research and implementation of new software tools to support project work,

  • Ensure digital tools are accessible and meet the needs of the program using automated compliance tools, manual inspection and testing with relevant assistive technologies. Find new solutions if they are not accessible

  • Support all aspects of the CIDE loan library including daily circulation, inventory management, generating waitlist reports, satisfaction surveys, troubleshooting devices, and arranging for repairs when indicated.

  • Manage and maintain fleet of iOS mobile devices.

  • Perform software updates on office and library equipment including PC, Android and iOS platforms.

  • Assist team members in front-line technical problem solving for basic computer or software issues of assistive technology products and the computers they interface with. This includes swiftly identifying technical problems, diagnosing their root causes, and putting effective solutions into place.

  • Regularly interact with program customers, collaborators, stakeholders, and faculty to ensure high quality support, services, and satisfaction in a timely manner.

  • Work with database software to manage library of equipment; customize tool to meet the reporting and data collection needs of the project.

  • Communicate effectively with the team to refer inquiries, clarify task requirements, and report on progress.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, IT, Marketing, Engineering, Communications, Management, Educational Administration, Arts or other related field from an accredited institution

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience providing administrative assistance to faculty and/or staff within a higher education program and/or public school or early childhood environment.

  • Candidates that are Bilingual (Spanish) are preferred.

  • Experience with library or database programs.

  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices across web, documents and software applications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including editing for typographical, grammatical, and spelling errors

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution as well as external partners.

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment, develop effective interpersonal relationships, provide superior customer service, and communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt to changing priorities, manage time and meet deadlines.

  • Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem-solving skills, critical thinking, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines

  • Proven knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet software, Email, and internet access software.

  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.x accessibility standards.

  • Experience with automated accessibility reporting tools present in MS Office products, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Chrome.

  • Ability to learn common assistive technologies products including desktop and mobile screen readers, screen magnifiers and accessibility features built into mobile and desktop operating systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues in person, remotely and via phone.

  • Ability to provide assistance with onboarding IT requirements Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills

  • Strong attention to detail

Conditions of Employment

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements

  • The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $20,800.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
