Purpose of the Job

Under general supervision of the collection supervisor operates sewer maintenance equipment to maintain City sewer lines; assists in wastewater plant operation and related tasks as directed; performs other related duties as required.

II. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Operates sewer jet for cleaning, flushing and unblocking sewer line with high-pressure water. Operates rodder and bucket machine to removed roots and other obstructions from sewer line. Utilizes various chemicals to cut grease, etc.
• Responds to complaints from general public concerning defective house laterals on other sewer problems. Answers questions and performs necessary sewer line maintenance or repair work.
• Visually inspects sewer system to locate sewer line blockages and damaged or buried manholes.
• Injects dye and smoke into sewer system to test for infiltration and overflow. Identifies nature and location of problem, informs supervisory personnel and recommends corrective procedures.
• Inspects storm overflow regulators, on a scheduled basis, to insure proper mechanical operation. Performs routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs as necessary.
• Assists in performing various tasks related to wastewater plan operations including sludge disposal equipment operation as directed.

Candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, valid State of Ohio Class B CDL (preferred not required), and one year experience as an equipment operator.
