Job Description:

Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for the reception of patients and public:
  • Greet patients and determine appropriate service area.

  • Provide information on patient location to family members, MD, hospital staff and general public.

  • Answer telephones.

  • Promote positive customer service atmosphere

​2. Responsible for the efficient registration process for all inpatients and outpatients:

  • Pre-register or pre-admit patients in computer system from information received on booking forms.

  • Receives patient, enters in computer system complete and accurate required admission data from patient or responsible third party.

  • Obtains necessary signatures on inpatient admissions and outpatient registrations.

  • Screens all admissions and registrations for compliance with appropriate utilization of services and compliance with Federal, State and third party mandates for managed care. Obtains approval before processing patients.

  • Provides appropriate forms to various hospital departments and staff.

  • Obtains deposits as directed and delivers same to appropriate staff persons.

  • Ensures timely processing/transport of patients and admission/registration forms and plates to appropriate area.

  • Secures medical records on new patient arrivals.

  • Performs order entry on selected patients for specific testing.

​3. Responsible for dissemination of information on Patient Rights:

  • Ensures that all patients receive information regarding their rights as a patient (verbal and written).

  • Ensures that all inpatients receive information regarding Advance Directives and that the Advance Directive status is indicated in the computer and on the Advance Directive Receipt of Information form.

  1. Handles urgent and emergency admissions in an appropriate manner:
  • Records urgent and emergency admissions and Extended Observation patients on appropriate log.

  • Obtains complete and accurate information on all urgent, emergency, and observation status patients. Files appropriately/check form MD orders, surgical consents, history and physical, etc., on all patients. Ensures MD orders are attached to chart.

​5. Completes projects as assigned by the Director of Patient Financial Services:

  • Refers problems/concerns to the Director of Admitting.
  1. Performs other related duties as required.
  • Attends annual safety review.

  • Plans time away from work appropriately:

  • Arrives and leaves at designated times.

  • Uses unplanned earned time appropriately. (Based on full time hours. Standards are pro-rated for part-time employees based on agreed hours.)
