Position Summary & Location

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for product design and development from concept through production for LED Drivers, ECG and LE, including new products and resolving problems in the field. They lead hardware engineer product design and redesign as well as prototyping, testing, and sample verification. The Senior Design Engineer leads various product design/development projects in collaboration with cross-functional members of the design team.

This role works on-site in Decatur, GA.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Lead various aspects of the design process including, but not limited to, the development of switch mode power supplies.

  • Design work varies from new product development to product enhancements and cost reduction activities including product definition, parts selection and qualification.

  • Develop and distribute engineering data via Engineering Change Notices, Engineering Specifications, Bills Of Material, Schematics, Layouts and Quality Reports.

  • Perform all qualification tests to ensure new drivers meet electrical, Thermal, EMI, mechanical and environmental requirements. Submit test requests and actively engage with the testing group as necessary on any required follow-up.

  • Submit prototyping requests and work directly with the model shop to produce prototypes and assemble samples.

  • Review functional specifications, project charters and competitor samples.

  • Partner with manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors to keep the manufacturing lines running and ensure quality product is produced.

  • Actively participate in and occasionally lead team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product.

  • Initiate and develop concepts for new products from Project Charters, and Specification Matrix provided by the Product Manager and other avenues such as reviewing competitor's samples and documentation, and free design techniques.

  • Ensure concepts are agreeable with standard manufacturing methods utilized in the appropriate manufacturing facility.

  • Continuously seek to improve processes related to productivity, quality, purchasing and manufacturing, including sourcing new or alternate processes, equipment, and training others.

  • Learn about emerging technology via tradeshows, vendors or other methods.

  • Support Better, Smarter, Faster & Lean Transformation efforts as a Kaizen team participant and assist with the completion of post-Kaizen activity/assignments as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required.

  • 6+ years of experience in power electronics circuits, including Boost, Buck, Flyback, LLC, LCC and resonant converters, linear regulators, transient protection circuits, EMI filter design, electronics component selection, and calculating lifetime for electronic SMPS is required.

  • Must demonstrate expertise in engineering fundamentals and effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and through sketches and engineering drawings.

  • Proficient use of electrical simulation environments (Pspice / LTSpice), PCB design knowledge, electrical, standards and manufacturing rules is required.

  • Must have experience with equipment including Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, AC/DC power supplies and electronic loads.

  • Proficiency in LEAN & Six Sigma methodology and practices such as standard work, time study, cause & effect, 5WHY analysis and other tools of DMAIC is required.

  • Must demonstrate APQP knowledge, project management experience, including managing by objectives, and decision making based on risk analysis.

  • Must work well in cross-functional environments to influence and enlist the cooperation of others to complete and implement new product development on time, and within budget.

  • Experience in UL certification and UL testing processes applicable to LED drivers and lighting is highly preferred.

  • Must understand and adhere to the appropriate established industry and safety standards.

The range for this position is $88,300.00 to $158,900.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
