ITW Engineering Intern in Decatur, Alabama

Job Description:

The Engineering Intern will gain hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to work alongside experienced manufacturing professionals in a collaborative environment. The Engineering Intern will contribute to various projects, gaining exposure to design, process improvement, testing, and quality control within our operations.

Essential Functions

  • Create and implement standard work documentation on various production processes throughout the plant.

  • Perform time studies on various production positions.

  • Support a plantwide noise reduction project, involving mapping out plant airlines, creating a BOM, and work alongside the Manufacturing Engineer to create a plan for implementation.

  • Assist the Manufacturing Engineer with completing employee feedback items and projects related to a continuous improvement initiative.

  • Assist with engineering projects, including research, data analysis, and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Engineering and going into Junior or Senior year (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field).

  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles, with an eagerness to learn and adapt.

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks & Visio) is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience with process mapping or flow charts preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, detailed orientated and organized

  • The ability to collaborate with the team to reach defined goals

  • The ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, perform root cause analysis, and related process improvement activities.

  • The ability to perform frequent lifting and to perform tasks that require keen vision required.

Additional information

  • Demonstrate knowledge concerning general safety protocol and procedures regarding field operations.

  • Ability to work independently, manage projects and complete assignments in a timely manner.

  • Self-starter; works with minimal supervision; capable of offering up and making decisions.

  • Effective oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Team-player with aptitude to learn the ITW culture and work within a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to maintain keen vision and mental awareness while practicing careful attention to detail.

  • Ability to collaborate with team members to support troubleshooting, problem solving, root cause analysis, and related process improvement activities.
