Job Title: Lab Technician (23.50/hr!!)

Job Description

The Lab Technician will be responsible for sample preparation, including late samples, labeling sample bottles, and splitting samples aseptically for chemistry and microbiology analysis. The Lab Technician will also store retained samples, clean counters and floors after sample preparation, enter lot weights into the Monitor Weight form, and print and place micro forms with micro samples. Additional duties include weighing and blending Chemistry Monitor Composites, making composite samples when required, and performing routine daily production testing such as Peroxide, moisture, ash, conductivity, and insoluble matter, odor panel according to test instructions. The role also involves microbiology set-up, plate reading, Gram staining, bacterial identification, collecting and testing environmental samples, and coordinating additional testing with the QA Officer. All data must be recorded on lab worksheets, request sheets, and in databases.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and label samples, split samples aseptically for chemistry and microbiology analysis.

  • Store retained samples and clean counters and floors after sample preparation.

  • Enter lot weights into the Monitor Weight form and print micro forms with micro samples.

  • Weigh and blend Chemistry Monitor Composites and make composite samples as required.

  • Perform routine daily production testing including Peroxide, moisture, ash, conductivity, insoluble matter, and odor panel.

  • Set up microbiology tests according to instructions, read plates, and prepare laboratory for required testing.

  • Conduct Gram staining and bacterial identification as needed.

  • Collect and test environmental samples and coordinate additional testing with the QA Officer.

  • Record all data on lab worksheets, request sheets, and in databases.

Work Environment

The position operates in an industrial processing environment that may be smelly due to swine hide being processed into gelatin. The role is a 1st shift position with hours from 7 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday. Once fully trained, the technician will work 1-2 Saturday mornings each month (typically 7-11 AM). The technician will float between four positions each week: chemistry float, chemistry technician, microbiology technician, and media prep technician. The team is small and laid-back, emphasizing a good team dynamic. The company prides itself on maintaining a work-life balance and engages in quarterly team-building outings. The facility operates under ISO and HACCP certifications, complying with national and international regulations. The dress code is appropriate for a laboratory setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.50 - $26.75/hr.
