AT&T Senior Technical Consulting Engineer in Dallas, Texas

Job Description:

POSITION: Senior Technical Consulting Engineer

JOB LOCATION : 208 S. Akard Street Dallas, TX 75202 [and various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S.; may work from home]

DUTIES: Design, configure, and implement support for customer network infrastructures. Serve as advisor to the account team and clients regarding the resolution of technical and engineering issues that affect the sale, installation, and utilization of AT&T managed networks or third party products and services including routers, switches, ethernet, fiber, ADI (AT&T Dedicated Internet), EPLS (Ethernet Private Line Service), AVPN (AT&T Virtual Private Network), and Vanguard VoIP (Voice Over IP). Troubleshoot on post-sale (Day 2) service activities provided under contract through activities. Provide support across multiple levels of technical support organizations to escalate withing AT&T and third party service providers for clients’ worldwide network transport services. Apply technical network knowledge of customer specific services, service architecture, topology, and utilization. Propose changes to designs, products, and services in response to client operational needs, sales, and cost reductions. Globally manage and rank providers’ performance and customers’ expectations by completing proactive trending and analyzing network performance in addition to requesting and leading continuous improvement actions. Advocate on the client's behalf in handling global network problems, escalations, root cause analysis, and improvement changes. Measure bandwidth, latency, packet loss, and jitter and assess the optimization of network routes including BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), BFD (Bidirectional Forwarding Detection), OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), and VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network). Test and configure routers, switches, and OOBs (Out Of Band Dial Console). Responsible for ongoing assessments of Mean Time to Restore (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) caused by change outages and change management. Work with technical liaisons to ensure that clients are well informed of active incidens and provide plans and timelines of when service impacting problems will be resolved. Responsible for the detection, recording, and maintaining of critical information related to Configuration Items (CI) that will be stored in a Knowledge Database (KDB) and the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) involving life cycle management of all incidents. Apply knowledge of IP routing, protocols, and services. Use VoIP technologies. Manage networks and services using different technologies including computers, telecom-TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), Frame Relay, WAN (Wide Area Network), LAN (Local Area Network), Routers, Energy Master, NET, RAD, MD110-DNA, Cabletron, VSAT, modems and links, radios, and fiber optics. Troubleshoot and resolve network transport, routing, and switch issues using BGP, OSPF, and VLAN. Maintain, install, configure, and reconfigure routers and switches. Author process documentation, methods, procedures, and guidelines for current network planning, capacity management, and network builds. Support Cisco, Juniper, Vanguard, and Ciena networking platforms. Utilize ticketing tools including HP OpenView, IBM Netview, PCA, BMP, and Service Now. Use Business Objects, PowerBI, and Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered, or 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation designing, configuring, and implementing support for customer network infrastructures; applying technical network knowledge of customer specific services, service architecture, topology, and utilization; proposing changes to designs, products, and services in response to client operational needs, sales, and cost reductions; measuring bandwidth, latency, packet loss, and jitter and assessing the optimization of network routes including BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), BFD (Bidirectional Forwarding Detection), OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), and VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network); applying knowledge of IP routing, protocols, and services; using VoIP technologies; troubleshooting and resolving network transport, routing, and switch issues using BGP, OSPF, and VLAN; maintaining, installing, configuring, and reconfiguring routers and switches; authoring process documentation, methods, procedures, and guidelines for current network planning, capacity management, and network builds; supporting Cisco, Juniper, Vanguard, and Ciena networking platforms; utilizing ticketing tools including HP OpenView, IBM Netview, PCA, BMP, and Service Now; and using Business Objects, PowerBI, and Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
