DALLAS-CITY OF Code Enforcement Officer I (Code Compliance) in Dallas, Texas

The Code Enforcement Officer I investigates, inspects, and enforces municipal, land development, and property maintenance codes within city boundaries. Schedules and performs systematic property maintenance inspections to maintain or achieve minimum property standards.

Essential Functions

1Conducts and performs inspections on city properties, projects, buildings, and developments to ensure compliance with all municipal, state, and federal regulations.

2Identifies, determines, and compiles non-compliant concerns and addresses issues with appropriate parties; takes accurate data and information concerning code violations and enforces code compliance.

3Investigates non compliant problems and makes recommendations for corrective action; communicates and collaborates with developers and other individuals to address code violations and make changes; performs follow up work and assistance as needed.

4Creates accurate and professional notices of violation; takes photographs and gathers evidence while performing inspections; issues citations and responds to citizen complaints.

5Educates and provides information to citizens, developers, and the general public; interprets laws and regulations while educating public on laws regulations and code standards.

6Drafts, maintains, and edits documents regarding inspections, code enforcement activities, and code violations;

7Remains up to date on all current code standards and changes in regulations; maintains certifications and attends professional development as needed.

8Drives vehicles throughout the city to perform inspections and address compliance and code violations.

9Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years of heavy citizen/customer service contact resolving complaints and/or conflicts, service and/or billing disputes.

EQUIVALENCY:

  • A currentCode Enforcement Officer Trainee certification (or higher) issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE and CERTIFICATION:

  • Valid drivers license with good driving record.
  • Must obtain certification as a Code Enforcement Officer Trainee issued by TDLR within probationary period.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

PREFERENCES:

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • PC and report writing skills.

  • Ability to testify in court and deal effectively with the public.

The sal ry listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.

For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
