Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Correctional Dietary Supervisor in Cumberland, Maryland
Main Purpose of Job
Supervises Correctional Dietary Officers who are responsible for supervising inmates in the preparation and serving of meals in a correctional facility.
POSITION DUTIES
- Instructing or informing subordinates and/or contractor staff regarding program expectations and operational goals
- Monitoring daily food service and security activities and reviewing reports to assess quality of job performance;
- Counseling, instructing, directing, or disciplining of subordinate staff as necessary in response to job performance or behavior factors.
- Reviewing sanitation, meal count, and food temperature reports from subordinates, determining appropriate action in response;
- Coordinating food service operations with institutional management;
- Preparing recommendations for institutional food service policies, procedures, and guidelines;
- Reviewing and determining appropriateness and accuracy of invoices, supplies, and equipment orders and/or food purchases;
- Inspecting food service facilities, equipment and operations to evaluate compliance with standards of sanitation, quality, and efficiency;
- Preparing required periodic reports to program managers regarding food service operations in units supervised.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high schoolor possession of a high school equivalencycertificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience: Three years of experience involving the custody, security and supervision of adult inmate workers in a food operation of a correctional institution.

The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.
