Job Description

The Department of Communication & Media at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) invites applications for an Assistant Professional Professor/Instructor of Media Arts to begin fall 2025. This position is 9-month, fixed term appointment with possible renewal and will primarily support digital and multimedia journalism courses . The successful candidate may potentially teach other Media Arts courses such as Film & Culture and Media & Society, as qualified. This position will also be the advisor to Island Waves, the student journalism organization. The successful candidate will help guide curricular decisions to move the digital journalism program forward, incorporating current trends and practices, and help develop a vision for student journalism in the 21st century at TAMU-CC. Additionally, we are also interested in applicants who can help expand our course offerings in areas such as video games studies and/or podcasting.

Required Qualifications:

Assistant Professional Professor

• Ph.D. in Media Studies, Journalism, Communication, or a related field. Advanced ABD will be considered, degree must be conferred by appointment.

• Demonstrated ability to teach digital and/or multimedia journalism courses.

• Evidence of successful teaching of undergraduate students of varied skills and ability levels, academic backgrounds, and social and cultural identities.

Instructor

• Master’s degree in Media Studies, Journalism, Communication, or a related field.

• Demonstrated ability to teach digital and/or multimedia journalism courses.

• Evidence of successful teaching of undergraduate students of varied skills and ability levels, academic backgrounds, and social and cultural identities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to teach courses in areas such as film, television, and video games studies.

• Experience supervising a student media outlet, such as a newspaper or news cast.
