Southwest Georgia United Empowerment Zone, Inc Controller/Accounting Manager in Cordele, Georgia
The Controller/Accounting Manager will assist the CEO in the efficiency and accuracy of the day-to-day management and oversight of all financial operations and monetary funds of the Southwest Georgia United Empowerment Zone (SWGAUEZ), Communities Empowering People Together (CEPT), and other organizations as authorized by the Board of Directors. The Controller/Accounting Manageris responsible for the accounting records of all grants / other funds received by the organizations. The Controller/Accounting Manageris responsible for the supervision of the Bookkeeper/Office Manager and will work with other staff members, providers, and funding agencies to effectively carry out the mission of the organization. This position requires a substantial amount of independent thought and action, exercised under pressures of deadlines. Work is performed within the broad policy statements established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), other state and federal agencies, the SWGAUEZ Board of Directors, and CEPT Board of Directors.Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Bookkeeper/Office Manager in the management of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for SWGAUEZ and CEPT. Provide appropriate training opportunities for the Bookkeeper within the organization's resources
- Assist the CDFI staff with revolving loan funds (recording loans and entering payments in the accounting system)
- Prepare bank reconciliation each month on all bank accounts (SWGAUEZ, CEPT)
- Prepare the annual budget in consultation with the CEO to support the annual program of work and provide monthly reports on budget progress to the Executive Director
- Assist the SWGAUEZ staff in preparation of required quarterly and semi-annually reports to USDA, HUD and other state, federal, and private agencies
- Prepare and request funds from USDA, HUD, and other state, federal and private agencies
- Serves as liaison between funded providers and staff of USDA, HUD, and other state and federal agencies
- Approve reimbursement / advance requests form providers, including assisting providers with budgeting of obligated funds
- Responsible for the SWGAUEZ and CEPT compliance with all financial auditing requirements and represent, manage, and support the activities of the independent financial audits of the SWGAUEZ operations.
- Provide written and verbal fiscal reports to the SWGAUEZ Board of Directors at their monthly meeting, to the CEPT Board of Directors at their quarterly meeting
- Shall be available for local and out of the area travel as required for job related training
- Shall attend all required meetings and functions as requested

- Perform duties on time and within budget
- Have a clean audit opinion each fiscal year
