Who will you be working with?

Our Freight Services Division provides locomotive maintenance services to our customers, the country’s largest freight railroads, helping them keep their locomotives running at optimal levels. The mission of the Fleet Innovation & Transformation team is to accelerate fleet transformation by consistently providing compelling solutions and innovative technologies that improve reliability, sustainability, and performance.

How will you make a difference?

The Systems Engineer leads locomotive modernization, NPI kits, Software, and Control Electronics Obsolescence projects with broad scope and high impact to the business. In this role you will be responsible for assignments with long-term business implications, manage different complexity issues, drive the overall projects coordination and execution.

The Systems Engineer’s focus is to interpret and communicate system level customer product requirements and/or internal business requirements to supporting subsystems, working to identify and drive solutions to interface issues and validate that they are met through the design review process.

In this role you will lead projects from conception to customer delivery by being the primary engineering interface between the product, commercial program management, engineering design, validation, and production/field implementation teams.

What do we want to know about you?

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Controls & Electronics & Computer Science.

  • Experience on engineering projects execution experience, preferably in railways industry.

  • Systems approach and analytical mindset.

  • Project planning and organizational skills.

  • Practice in Matrix6 modeling would be a great plus to a candidate.

We would love it if you had:

  • Master’s degree in in Electrical Engineering, Controls & Software, Electronics & Computer Science.

  • Six Sigma training.

  • Electrical/Controls/Software design background.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to drive projects to completion meeting key milestones and deliverables.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers.

  • North America and International legacy locomotive expertise.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Ability to excel in a lean mission-based team environment though optimized designs, validation scope, and customer focused results.

  • Provide technical leadership for all product design aspects of the assigned NPI, Software, Control Electronics Obsolescence and/or locomotive modernization projects.

  • Develop and maintain projects schedule, engage necessary engineering resources for successful execution.

  • Analyze and identify project risks and develop/implement mitigation plan.

  • Performing locomotive configuration files analysis, comparison, updates, approvals, release.

  • Deliver strong and concise requirements and product definition to supporting engineering teams.

  • Provide analysis of overall system design with focus on design rigor and practical improvements.

  • Knowledge of engineering processes and tools used to create system level documentation (QSW, DOORS, EDOT, PLM, Reliance, etc).

  • Organizing and performing system level validation plans on products.

  • Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as commercial, proposals, manufacturing, sourcing, services, reliability, global engineering, and systems engineering.

  • Support service programs, fulfillment, and New Product Introduction (NPI).

  • Support customer delivery and commissioning, on-site or remotely.

  • Communicate progress to all levels of the organization.

  • Mentor and develop less experienced personnel.
