Full Time Perm

Salary : $155,400 - $233,100, plus equity and 25% annual bonus

The Cloud Transformation and Operations team supports cloud capabilities as well as general data center infrastructure for the NiSource ecosystem.

The Director of Cloud Engineering and Operations encompasses oversight of cloud and premise hosting, network services, and end-user collaboration services. This role will lead the planning, execution, and management of NiSource's cloud migration to include strategy, assessment of existing infrastructure, design and standardization, optimizing workloads, and ensuring a smooth transition while maximizing business benefits for improved efficiency and scalability. The Director of Cloud Engineering will also manage external vendors, enforce security policies, and align infrastructure solutions with the organization's overall business objectives.

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessment and Planning: • Conduct comprehensive analysis of current infrastructure and applications to identify suitable candidates for cloud use• Develop detailed cloud migration plans, including timelines, cost estimations, and risk mitigation strategies• Encourage implementation of innovative technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork and self-organization• Support standardized patterns for cloud capabilities• Designate target cloud (Azure, AWS, Private-Cloud) for application workloads, and select appropriate cloud services based on business needs• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across our full stack, with a particular focus on front-end and middleware platforms and technologies• Deploy objectives and strategies to continuously improve resiliency, redundancy and security of cloud products and services through DevOps practices and site reliability engineering

  • Migration Execution: • Lead application migration process, including data migration, application re-architecture, and infrastructure configuration• Partner with architects, product owners, security, and software engineers to drive the delivery• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across our full stack, with a particular focus on front-end and middleware platforms and technologies• Foster and cultivate a culture of continuous delivery and improvement with an emphasis on full lifecycle ownership of the applications that your teams deliver• Manage the transition of workloads to the cloud with minimal disruption to business operations.• Monitor migration progress and address any technical challenges that arise

  • Optimization and Transformation: • Optimize cloud infrastructure to ensure cost-efficiency and performance improvements• Implement cloud-native architectures where appropriate and leverage advanced cloud services to enhance application functionality and assist with migrations• Identify opportunities to leverage cloud capabilities for business innovation and digital transformation• Create, support, and deploy technical platform teams for capacity enhancement or support cloud efforts• Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, security, and cost efficiency• Defines and maintains critical cloud policies regarding SLA’s, agreements with security, disaster recovery, acceptable use, data retention and other areas• Lead major incident management and service requests• Maintain CMDB and asset management processes

  • Stakeholder Management: • Manage third party staff augmentation firms, leveraging staff and contractors appropriately with regards to budget, timelines, and skillsets• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including other teams in IT, business stakeholders, and security teams to prioritize resources, including budget, and technical debt remediation• Communicate migration plans and progress to key decision-makers• Address concerns and manage expectations throughout the cloud transformation journey• Oversee team development and training to ensure proficiency in cloud technologies• Provide regular reports on cloud performance and budgetary impacts to leadership

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years of experience with cloud architecture design, including networking, storage, compute, and security best practices

  • 10+ years of experience working with a variety of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Private-Cloud Architecture) and their services

  • 10+ years of experience utilizing cloud migration strategies like "lift and shift", re-platforming, and re-factoring

  • 7+ years of experience managing teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree

  • Basic knowledge of the PMI process groups (initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing) and current Project Management methodologies

  • Solid understanding of multi-cloud environments

  • Azure or AWS certifications

  • Working knowledge of the gas utility industry

  • Knowledge of industry best practices in modeling, simulation, and testing

Salary Range*:

$155,400.00 - $233,100.00

*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience , as well as internal pay equity .
