Summary This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2025. Responsibilities Total Rewards: Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Brochure.pdf The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CV/Interventional) operates within the Department of Vascular Surgery independently and without direct supervision as the technologist responsible for the coordination and performance of angiographic procedures, complex vascular, non-vascular and therapeutic procedures. These exams are performed with and without contrast materials. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies so that proper diagnosis and treatment will be delivered. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Assist to maintain control of the Vascular Interventional Department by coordinating, organizing, executing the work potential for expediting workflow patterns within the department. Organizes in-service meetings, ordering of new equipment and supplies, trains all new technologist, creates procedure schedules, assist in the operative planning for patients, scheduling of exams and procedures, conducts morning huddles, assigns workflow to ensure proper staffing for procedures schedule in the IR or Operating Room, coordinates with Vendors for supplies and equipment for procedures. Performs procedures within the Diagnostic and Interventional section which require the use of needles, syringes, catheters, balloons, stents, isovue, Omnipaque and other contrast mediums. The radiographer must have knowledge of these contrast mediums and know their effects and adverse reactions. Improper use or administration of the contrast can run the risk of patient mortality; therefore, it is essential that a thorough understanding of usage be possessed by those who prepare it. Must continuously be alert to the patient's condition and other disorders. Adverse reactions on the part of the patient require immediate attention so that harm does not come to the patient or equipment. Incumbent works closely with the other technologists, radiologists, clinicians, and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic exam results, and patient satisfaction are achieved. Performs as a scrub technologist or circulating technologist while assisting the Vascular Surgeon and have knowledge of sterile technique. Depending on the procedure can recognize allergic reactions and initiate CPR (cardiovascular resuscitation). Properly applies pressure/dressing to avoid hematoma formation after interventional studies. Has knowledge of vascular systems and major vessels. Technologist is knowledgeable in the use of the specialized equipment employed for digital subtraction systems and Interventional procedures. Ensures that all documentation required for the completion of exams is done in VISTA/CPRS. The radiographer must be certain patient identification and requests are identical. Validates all images and corrects incorrect information prior to sending to VISTA for interpretation by the Radiologist. If deletion from Vista is required, the proper documentation must be presented for the deletion of images from the medical record through the supervisor or PACS/ADPAC Coordinator. Continuously works to develop a cohesive and effective team with other areas of the entire facility to expedite quality patient care. Maximize efficiency in the number of exams performed without compromising the quality of patient care. English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). GS-10 Grade Determination: Applicants must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09), directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Examples of Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist GS-9 experience includes but is not limited to: lead DRT for a group of DRTs at the full performance level and below, providing input on performance, resolving daily workplace issues, and maintaining efficient workflow. Provides a full range of general radiologic imaging exams, has a general knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area, and is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor. Assignment: Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist GS-10 - Functions as a lead DRT for a group of DRTs [at the GS-9 level and below]. Provides a full range of general radiologic imaging exams, has a broad knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area, and is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work. *Ability to resolve informal employee complaints. *Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures. Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations. Preferred Experience: Interventional Vascular Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist operates independently and without direct supervision as the technologist responsible for the coordination and performance of Vascular procedures and Vascular Diagnostic Radiology. Performs procedures within the Vascular interventional section which requires the use of needles, syringes, Contrast media, wires, catheters and other specialized equipment. Helps to maintain effective control of the Vascular/Interventional department by coordinating, organizing, and executing the work potential to expedite work flow patterns within the department. Validates images sent to VISTA. Performs all diagnostic and invasive procedures to include all administrative duties associated with each. Trains new technologist in angiography and specialized procedures; angiogram with run off, balloon angioplasty, EVAR, TCAR, embolization's, amongst other procedures. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is the GS-10.
