Salary Range: Generally starting at $62,000 - $65,000 per year. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Work Location: The work location for this position is on-site.

Summary

This is a 9-month faculty position for instruction in the undergraduate nursing programs (traditional, accelerated, and RN-BSN). This is a position with 80% teaching (24 credits) and 20% service and includes didactic and clinical instruction in the classroom, online, simulation learning center, and in clinical settings and in medical/surgical adult health.

The faculty in this position will assume the lead role on courses in the undergraduate programs according to their content expertise and program needs. As lead on all the courses, the program requires a skilled master's prepared nurse with content expertise in the topics and expertise in classroom teaching and online teaching. In addition to the expertise in teaching, the faculty member needs a thorough understanding of the curriculum, an understanding of the requirements for meeting the standards for program accreditation, and the application of the standardized testing and resources used.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Leadership:

  • Plans and develops course syllabus, class, and clinical schedules.

  • Participates as member of the department representing the course and assigned content areas.

  • Collaborates with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator for clinical learning experiences that reflect course and level objectives.

  • Maintain positive working relationships and communications with community partners.

  • Supports clinical faculty members in the course by orienting them to their positions, holding regular team meetings, ensuring they have needed course materials, and mentoring.

  • Participates in the evaluation of course, curriculum, and program outcome evaluation (i.e. FCQ's, clinical site evaluations, Annual Course reports).

  • Visits clinical sites to assess/evaluate performance of clinical teachers.

  • Communicates with appropriate Option Coordinators to provide verbal and written documentation related to critical course and student issues.

  • Collaborates with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator for recruitment, selection, and evaluation of clinical faculty.

  • Maintains lines of communication with department and college staff for effective course program implementation.

  • Implements University, college, and departmental policies as appropriate to the course.

Educator:

  • Participates in the identification of critical content and essential competencies for assigned course.

  • Takes primary responsibility for course content delivery using a variety of teaching-learning strategies.

  • Collaborates to facilitate team approach to course implementation.

  • Maintains oversight for textbook selection, course measurement, and evaluation strategies.

  • Consults with clinical faculty, information technologists, and others to ensure appropriate use of technology in the classroom and clinical settings.

  • Posts course grades in a timely manner consistent with university policy.

  • Attends departmental, college, and university meetings and events.

Consultant:

  • Serves as a consultant to the assigned clinical faculty on content, pedagogy, curriculum philosophy and implementation of a variety of teaching strategies.

  • Serves as a consultant to agency personnel regarding course content, pedagogy, curriculum philosophy and implementation of a variety of teaching strategies as needed.

Tentative Search Timeline

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master of Sciences in Nursing from a program with national accreditation.

  • Active, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado, or ability to obtain by date of hire.

  • 2 years of full time, or equivalent, professional nursing clinical experience related to medical/surgical adult health nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience in an undergraduate nursing program or adult learning environment.

  • Course work in nursing education with focus on curriculum development, measurement and evaluation and strategies for teaching learning.

Physical Requirements

While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. Talking and hearing within normal range. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
