Description

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University is delighted to announce a position in our small animal Emergency & Critical Care service. We are seeking a full-time, non-tenure-track clinical assistant, associate, or full professor in small animal emergency and critical care (ECC) to join our team on an 11-month appointment. The anticipated start date for this position is in Fall 2025.

The successful candidate will devote up to 70% of their time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. The remaining assigned effort will consist of academic citizenship (10%), scholarship (10%) and classroom/laboratory teaching (10%). Clinical duties will be shared among all ECC faculty and a team of interns and residents. The Emergency Service admits approximately 8,000 cases per year with the ECC clinicians additionally consulting on, and caring for, hundreds of ICU and critical care cases. Active supervision of interns and residents, instruction of clinical-year students, and primary case supervision is expected. Successful candidates will also participate in and contribute to weekly resident boards review and journal clubs.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital includes sophisticated diagnostic and patient care equipment including a Baxter Prismax, Drager Infinity C500 ventilator, Oxylog 3000+ transport ventilator, high-flow oxygen therapy, blood banking and separation, Siemens 3T MRI, Siemens 40 slice helical CT scanner, Brainsight Neuronavigation system, Zeiss neurosurgical operating microscope, and Cadwell Sierra Wave electrodiagnostic unit. The 7 surgical suites are well-equipped and supported by a team of dedicated surgical technicians, allowing a surgical technician to be present for the duration of each surgical procedure. The CT, 3T MRI, and CT Tomotherapy unit are housed in an onsite imaging center. The teaching hospital has capable personnel including, but not limited to talented ICU technicians, an active multidisciplinary interventional radiology service, three in-house pharmacists with compounding capability, and a clinical trials coordinator. Construction has begun on the new state of the art 135,000 square foot hospital, with plans for opening in August 2027.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 60 faculty members in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences and an active group of house officers that includes more than 50 rotating interns and residents in the other medical and surgical disciplines. Qualifications

Applicants must have a DVM degree (or equivalent) and must be a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) or eligible to sit for the exam to become board-certified. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for a regular or special license to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.
