Health Unit Coordinator - Orthopaedic Surgical

Fairview Hospital's Parkview III Med/Surg Unit primarily focuses on the care of post-operative patients. Patients in this unit have had orthopaedic, spine, low-risk bariatric, urology, vascular, colorectal and general surgeries, but this unit sees all types of surgical and trauma patients. By taking this opportunity, you will join a caring and collaborative team of caregivers that are highly regarded by many surgeons for excellent care.

A caregiver in this position works 3:00pm - 11:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.

• Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.

• Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.

• Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.

• Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.

• Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED.

• 1 year of experience in a customer service-related role.

• Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• College degree.

• Microsoft Office experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

• Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

• Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.

• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
