General Statement of Duties
The Metropolitan Sewer District Facility Planning and Optimization Group is looking for an engineer with a desire to learn and grow at one of the most innovative utilities in the country.
This position will work with a team of engineers to ensure that capital assets are optimized and replaced in the most effective way possible, applying engineering and asset management best-practices. Investigate, research, develop, and optimize solutions for problems in all wastewater treatment plants including complex chemical and biological systems. Consult with operations and engineering personnel to select new treatment processes, methods, and means of implementation. Prepare, review, and develop hydraulic and wastewater process models, engineering studies, and designs. Present and communicate complex and technical information and data effectively to a variety of audiences, both orally and in writing; effectively coordinate with other divisions and outside agencies.
Desired skills include ability to apply logical reasoning to insightfully analyze and conceptually review various solutions to solve complex problems

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

Knowledge of:
Engineering and technology, especially as related to assigned area of responsibility--structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, geotechnical, etc; reinforced concrete design. Design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. As appropriate, geology, including local geology, investigative practices, and stabilization methods. Code of Ethics for Professional Engineers. Pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws, regulations and standards, and industry safety standards Principles of management and supervision City personnel policies and procedures and union contracts. Principles and practices of obtaining and administering funding for assigned projects. Materials, tools, and equipment used in engineering. Administrative policies and procedures of the City and the assigned department. Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
Skill to:
Operate appropriate computer equipment; use properly all related hardware and software. Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D tools, and analytic or scientific software. Operate motor vehicle in the course of duty.
Ability to:
Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with currently accepted engineering practices and appropriate laws and codes. Interpret engineering plans and perform calculations. Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Review and prepare reports, construction plans, cost estimates, and specifications for assigned projects. Review plans for roadways, utilities, earthworks, and residential and industrial developments. Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems. Ensure the use of appropriate safety and quality standards. Interpret field data and results from laboratory tests and identify trends or make recommendations. Develop and maintain databases and maps. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Write technical reports or summaries. Manage project budgets and schedules. Plan and manage the activities of subordinate workers. Manage construction projects and contractors.
Required Education and Experience
SENIOR ENGINEER
Each applicant must be a registered professional engineer in the State of Ohio, or in a state with equivalent registration requirements. If not registered in Ohio when appointed, Ohio registration must be obtained during the probationary period.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of registration with the State of Ohio as a Professional Engineer.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.
MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

Each applicant must be enrolled as a Senior in a Bachelor's Degree program in engineering at an accredited college or university, or possess a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
OR
Possess an Engineer-in-Training Certificate from any state.

Healthcare Flex Spending Account
City employees can participate in the Healthcare Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay out-of-pocket medical, prescription, dental, and vision care expenses for employees and family members.
Dependent Care Flex Spending Account
City employees can participate in a Dependent Care Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay work-related dependent care expenses. Participants can set aside money each year through pre-tax payroll deductions to pay for these expenses.
Transportation Expense Reimbursement Account
City employees can participate in a Transportation Expense Reimbursement Account (TERA) that can be used to reimburse expenses related to traveling to and from work. Participants can set-up a pre-tax payroll deduction up to an IRS regulated amount.
Healthy Lifestyles Program
City employees can voluntarily participate in a wellness incentive program that encourages and rewards employees and their spouses/equal partners for making positive choices for better health. The City of Cincinnati will contribute up to $300/year to a Health Reimbursement Account for each the employee and their spouse/equal partner for meeting specified program goals. These dollars can be used to offset qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Integrated Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
This is a voluntary program that serves as an alternative healthcare option to traditional medical plans. If you have alternate group health coverage available to you through a spouse, equal partner, another job, or a non-city retirement plan, you may be eligible for this plan which reimburses you for the difference in premiums between the plans and your covered out of pocket expenses on the other plan.
Retirement Plan
The City provides a defined benefit pension plan for part-time and full-timeemployees. New hires and re-hired employees are required to participate in the City of Cincinnati's Retirement System (CRS), regardless of previous participation in an Ohio State pension system or any another state or federal pension system. CRS is funded by employer and employee contributions, and investment returns from plan assets. CRS provides retirement and health care benefits subject to eligibility requirements. The following groups are excluded from participation in CRS: Mayor and Members of City Council; Sworn Police & Fire; Police Recruits; and Rehired Ohio Police & Fire Retirees.
Deferred Compensation
As an Ohio government employer, the City offers employees the ability to participate in a 457(b) tax-deferred retirement savings plan. The City makes an annual match to your 457(b) of up to $750, or as otherwise specified in applicable regulations and union contracts.
