Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$26.500 - $33.125 - $39.750

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

To assist the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services that support the mission, values and philosophy of Pharmacy Services and Sharp HealthCare. Performs technical tasks involved in the preparation, documentation and distribution of out-patient medications.

Required Qualifications

  • California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED

Preferred Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent

  • 1 Year Experience in retail pharmacy environment

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -PREFERRED

Essential Functions

  • Accurately processes prescriptionsObtains all required patient information, allergies, and payment method from the patientDemonstrates understanding of and accurately applies metric and apothecary systems of weights and measures, pharmaceutical calculations, trade and generic names, dosages and indications.Completes all computer data fields when entering prescriptionsCalls physician's offices for refills as needed and records appropriate authorizationCommunicates problems and delays in processing to pharmacist as appropriateNotifies the pharmacist of any duplicate drug entries, too frequent refills, drug interactions, or allergy warning statements highlighted during prescription entryPrepares the prescription label with accurate information about the product dispensed (brand/generic) as required by law and affixes any useful auxiliary labels to the vialProvides for accurate and secure filling of controlled substance prescriptions. Maintains all documentation accurately according to policies and procedures. Maintains adequate control drug inventory and resolves pharmacy narcotic discrepancies in a timely manner.Obtains pharmacist check prior to dispensing 100% of the time

  • BillingFollows all cash register proceduresUnderstands and maintains knowledge of contracted third party formularies and plan limitations.Properly records all overages and payoutsObtains proper patient identification and authorization on checks and charge cards

  • Inventory controlMaintains adequate levels of supplies including prescription vials, liquid bottles, pharmacy labels, printer paper, and pharmacy caution labels.Communicates special or urgent needs to buyer in a timely manner.Maintains neat and organized work areas.Completes assigned pharmacy (or nursing unit) inspections, removes outdated and unusable medications from inventory for disposal or credit from reverse distribution vendor.Monitors and documents refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily.

  • Medication safetyDemonstrates knowledge of and active participation in concurrent medication safety event monitoring programs.Qualitative work demonstrates thoughtful and thorough identification, evaluation and analysis of medication safety eventsQuantitative work reflects the desire to contribute to the ADE monitoring aspect of Safe Medication Practice.
