What You’ll Be Doing
As a Private Banking Underwriting Manager , you will provide guidance, direction, training, and leadership to a team of Private Banking Underwriters primarily centralized in Chicago. You will manage the underwriting workflow by reviewing and triaging credit requests and working with Group Portfolio Managers to prioritize tasks in the underwriting queue. In addition, you will perform analysis and prepare loan presentations as needed, ensuring all credit requests are addressed with a sense of urgency. You’ll collaborate closely with Underwriters, Private Bankers, Market Managers, Regional Managers, and Group Portfolio Managers to deliver superior client service.
How You’ll Succeed
Review and triage credit requests: Ensure all submissions to the PB Underwriting mailbox include the necessary information for processing.
Efficient task assignment: Assign credit requests promptly based on team expertise and capacity while maintaining an accurate underwriting queue.
Manage workflow effectively: Coordinate competing priorities within the team to meet business line requirements.
Set clear priorities: Work with Group Portfolio Managers and the Private Banking Chief Operating Officer to establish weekly task priorities.
Provide timely updates: Respond to inquiries from Private Bankers, Market Leads, and Regional Managers regarding credit request statuses.
Deliver quality output: Personally produce and ensure the team produces high-quality Loan Presentations, Material Amendments, and other credit documents in a timely manner.
Maintain data integrity: Ensure accuracy in underwriting, processing, and compliance logs/systems.
Collaborate effectively: Work closely with Underwriters, Relationship Managers, Loan Coordinators, and senior management to foster seamless teamwork.
Ensure timely reporting: Oversee that the underwriting team completes required reporting responsibilities (weekly, monthly, or quarterly) to meet deadlines.
Enhance professional knowledge: Continuously expand market and industry knowledge through training, seminars, and special projects.
Master credit policies: Develop a strong working knowledge of CIBC Bank USA Credit Policy and Risk Rating Frameworks.
Manage costs: Conduct activities with a focus on cost/expense control management.
Engage in community involvement: Participate in community initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Who You Are
Educational background : You have a College/Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
Experienced professional: You have a minimum of 3–5 years of underwriting experience, preferably within a private banking environment.
Client profile expertise: You understand the high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth client profiles and their typical product offerings.
Credit structuring specialist: You can structure credit solutions for HNW and UHNW clients with complex balance sheets and cash flows.
Analytically proficient: You are skilled at analyzing clients’ balance sheets, cash flows, risk tolerance, and financial objectives to propose customized, complex credit structures that align with the bank’s risk parameters.
Regulatory knowledge: You have a solid understanding of federal and state regulatory requirements.
Organized multitasker: You possess strong organizational skills, enabling you to manage multiple assignments and priorities effectively.
Team player: You demonstrate excellent teamwork and partnering skills, effectively managing the expectations of various internal and external stakeholders.
Analytical thinker: You have excellent analytical skills with a proven ability to quickly understand complex problems and recommend effective solutions.
Financial analysis expert: You have strong knowledge of complex personal and business financial analysis, including tax returns, balance sheet, and cash flow analysis.
Effective communicator: You possess excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Tech proficient: You are an intermediate user of MS Word and MS Excel.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $100,000 - 130,000 for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
