As AWS's Global Health & Safety Manager for Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD), you'll play a crucial role in shaping how we safely deliver some of the world's most advanced data center infrastructure.

In this role, you'll tactically support the full spectrum of DCPD priorities and projects. You'll partner internally with diverse teams including Real Estate, Due Diligence, Health and Safety (H&S) Programs, Construction, Commissioning, Critical Projects, and Procurement to strengthen our safety culture and contractor relationships. Externally, you'll work with General Contractors, Third Party H&S consultants and suppliers to establish, maintain, and enhance safety standards and performance. This role is ideal for an experienced H&S professional who combines technical expertise with strategic thinking and strong partnership skills to drive safety excellence in complex, fast-paced environments.

Key job responsibilities

As the Global Health & Safety Manager for AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD), you'll drive safety excellence across our worldwide portfolio by developing, implementing, and scaling comprehensive safety programs. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on field presence to ensure effective execution of our safety standards and processes. Success in this role requires the ability to scale safety excellence across new regions, validate program effectiveness through audits, and foster a culture where safety is owned at all levels. You'll drive continuous improvement through SIR prevention programs, risk assessments, performance monitoring, and tactical program development, ensuring our safety standards evolve with our growing business. Other responsibility examples:

  • Scale and deliver safety leadership programs that empower line managers to own and champion our safety culture through visible leadership and effective engagement.

  • Drive safety excellence across DCPD teams by deploying programs that embed safety into all aspects of data center delivery including Data Center Supply Solutions, Data Center Delivery, Data Center Capacity Delivery, Energy & Water, Data Center Position Optimization and Global Network Deployment.

  • Lead and develop a global team of H&S professionals by setting clear expectations, providing strategic direction, and fostering an environment of continuous growth. Drive accountability while ensuring team members have the resources and support needed to deliver world-class safety programs within their assigned scopes.

  • Partner with Global H&S programs team for the development of robust Safety Management Programs and Polices to positively influence the Data Center Planning and Delivery business and enhance the global safety culture.

  • Partner with regionally based Project Teams, to embed health and safety risk assessments into processes and procedures based on AWS policies, programs, and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Deploy scalable process that integrates H&S risk assessments from the real estate/due diligence project phase into project planning, ensuring early identification and mitigation of safety risks.

  • Champion AWS's Serious Incident Risk (SIR) prevention strategy through systematic identification, trending, assessment, and mitigation of high-consequence risks across global construction operations.

  • Drive line management accountability for H&S in DCPD teams through business reviews by delivering balanced scorecards that combine key safety metrics with meaningful narratives, enabling data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.

  • Lead Health and Safety (H&S) initiatives by collaborating with Leadership, Legal, Procurement, and Operations teams.

  • Drive regulatory compliance, monitor safety metrics, and implement improvements that support business strategy.

A day in the life

This role is operationally focused with a mindset towards organizational strategy. You will spend time in the field trusting but verifying the Policy, Programs, Mechanisms, Tools, Guidance, and Standards are being executed by the DCPD business. You will spend time auditing, developing internal competencies, engaging with contractors, launching new regions, reviewing due diligence risk assessments, leading a team of H&S professionals and reporting out through business reviews how the business is performing. This position collaborates directly with (DCPD) leadership to evaluate risk management practices. The role assesses existing control measures and provides implementation guidance where gaps are identified

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience of 5-7 years’ in health and safety, contractor management, due diligence reviews, contractor safety, program implementation or providing direct oversight for 3rd party services/contractors/consultants

  • Advanced certification through recognized agency/association(s) in occupational health and safety (i.e. BCSP, ASSP, BCRSP, ITC-ILO, IOHS, NEBOSH, SISO, MEM, etc)

  • Experience in International Standards Organization standard application such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, or ISO 45001

  • Ability to work with ambiguity and fast-paced environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Safety Management, Contractor Health and Safety Management or related field

  • Ability to follow the plan, but dive into ambiguity to sort 'it out', think big, and apply solutions for long term improvement opportunities across a portfolio of projects

  • Using data and anecdotes to support your efforts and operate to a Plan, Do, Check, Act mentality

  • Experience working with Procore and Avetta software

  • Strong analytical skills on leading and lagging data, with problem solving abilities that show results

  • Demonstrated understanding of health and safety regulations for the jurisdiction

  • Ability to travel 30-40% domestically & internationally

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $198,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
