Job Summary and Qualifications

The Director of Respiratory Therapy is responsible for defining and maintaining standards of practice for service delivery and organizational performance strategies. They must be able to provide direct patient care for patients’ ages child through geriatric as a respiratory therapist. The Director oversees staff in operation of diagnostic and therapeutic pulmonary procedures including ventilation management, medical gas therapy, humidity and aerosol therapies, bronchodilator and bronchial hygiene therapy. This individual must create and maintain good physician, patient, employee and vendor relationships and keep a focus on providing excellent customer service.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy Sciences from an accredited Respiratory Care Program required

  • Bachelor of Science Degree required, Master's Degree preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a respiratory therapist required

  • Minimum 1 year of leadership/management experience preferred

  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist or State Registered Respiratory Therapist required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of hire

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of hire

What you will do in this role:

  • Lead and develop staff in the department while promoting and exhibiting teamwork.

  • Demonstrate and teach critical thinking skills

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies/procedures and patient safety initiatives

  • Develop and maintain department work schedule to ensure productivity is met

  • Maintain departmental expenses within budget constraints

  • Counsel and discipline staff as appropriate

  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to integrate care that meets patient’s needs

  • Develop and implement a consistent program for quality assurance

  • Effectively communicate with physicians, patients, family members, respiratory staff, leadership and ancillary staff

  • Oversee operation of blood gas lab and maintain State regulations for operations

  • Ensure all requirements for CAP are consistently met

  • Perform time edits and approvals

  • Order departmental supplies and maintain departmental inventory

  • Ensure that staff can provide education to nursing staff related to respiratory equipment as needed

  • Utilize a standard data collection tool in Meditech to maintain on-going monitoring/assessment of assigned patients for all modalities

  • Participate in the development of patient plan of care when providing patient care

  • Collaborate with the patient/family, systematically and continually assess the patient’s health

  • Maintain the ability to demonstrate appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures, and guidelines in assessment of the population served

Parkridge East Hospital is a 120+ bed facility in East Ridge. We provide a full range of medical and surgical services. These services include orthopedics and robotic surgery. We have a 24/7 Emergency Department. This ED is recognized by the Society of Chest Pain Centers as an Accredited Chest Pain Center. The facility also offers obstetrical care and complex gynecological procedures. We also hold a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Specialized providers in the NICU include neonatologists, neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists. These staff are on site at all times. Visit us for excellent general and OB care!
