Amergis PRN Cardiac Monitor Tech in Charlottesville, Virginia

PRN/PT Cardiac Monitor Tech Needed

1 shift per week minimum

Day shift and Night shift (12s)

Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required * OR* 1 year of experience in monitor technician surveillance with in the last 2 years will be accepted

MUST be able to pass a basic arrhythmia exam at orientation


Under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse, the Cardiac Monitor Technician assists other members of the healthcare team in diagnosing conditions related to the patient’s heart function by using noninvasive monitoring techniques such as electrocardiograms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patient records to determine normal heart rhythms

  • Monitors current patterns and noting any deviations

  • Observes monitor screen and listening for alarms that would identify abnormal heart rhythm variations

  • Performs EKG interpretations by analyzing and recording atrial and ventricular raters and rhythms

  • Notifies nurses immediately of loss of clear telemetry signal and arranges for coverage when leaving monitor room

  • Recognizes and immediately reports dysrhythmias to the nurse

  • Recognizes interference and artifact and can troubleshoot and correct problems

  • Notifies nurses and/or doctors when needed

  • Cleans and maintains equipment, ensuring batteries are charged and installed properly

  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Successful completion of a hospital-approved arrhythmia interpretation class

  • Successful completion of a monitor technician course may be required per contract

  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience in cardiac monitoring preferred • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
