OneMain Financial Associate Director - Software Development Charlotte, North Carolina
We are seeking an Associate Director of Software Development to lead our dynamic software engineering teams. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a technology advocate, and an empathetic leader who can drive innovation, foster collaboration, mentor team members, and deliver cutting-edge software solutions. This role involves leading the end-to-end software delivery for cross-functional front-end platform teams.
In the Role
Develop and execute a software development strategy aligned with the company's overall goals. Identify emerging front-end technologies and trends, integrating them into the software development roadmap
Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment
Collaborate closely with product management, UX design, and other departments/lanes to align software development with business objectives. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders
Evaluate and select the most suitable technology stack to ensure scalability, security, and performance
Lead a team of varying levels and be accountable for decision-making in daily activities, ensuring team execution and removing blockers. Provide accurate estimates and coaching to team members
Deliver tough messages, handle disagreements, and address difficult questions to a non-managerial audience, with support from a more senior manager as needed
Articulate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner that is understandable by both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Lead the team through unfamiliar situations and serve as a change champion for new initiatives
Quickly learn and synthesize solutions for new problems within your domain, handling broader and more complex issues effectively
Proactively experiment to find solutions while tolerating uncertainty and viewing both successes and failures as learning opportunities
Align skill sets to problems to enable better problem-solving. Collaborate with stakeholders to define problems before moving into solution-generation, identifying possible pitfalls in various approaches
Work with the team to set short-term goals, provide direction, and assign responsibilities.
Match team members’ skills and interests to tasks where possible
Track work status, address issues, and provide guidance
Requirements
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred)
6–8 years of engineering experience.
Experience as a lead developer or team lead, with a focus on organizing, developing, and mentoring teams.
Three or more years of progressive responsibility as an engineer on development teams directly responsible for building and delivering software-intensive systems.
Exposure to principles of planning, organizational change management, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and team coordination.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with modern software development methodologies and tools.
Excellent communication skills.
