AT&T Technical Lead - Service Architecture (Chief Architect) (IT Systems Architect Level III) in Chantilly, Virginia

AT&T has an opening for a Technical Lead – Service Architecture to support a key program in AT&T’s National Security business segment. The Technical Lead – Service Architecture or Chief Architect will provide expert knowledge of network engineering and operations, large scale enterprise network solution implementation and ongoing architectural network operations transition, test and evaluation activities. The Chief Architect will also lead and support highly technical maintenance involving network devices routers, switches, and security solutions. They will facilitate cross functional team collaboration and participate in the development and training of technical staff. This position will work closely with program and customer leadership to ensure the program requirements are met or exceeded within existing timeframes and budget. The Chief Architect will foster collaboration of ideas related to emerging technology, program technical strategy, and continuously evolving network architecture and maintenance approach that increases availability, resiliency, security, and ease of maintenance through simplification and automation using best in class technology, tools, and processes.

Description of Job Duties/Responsibilities: The job duties for the Technical Lead – Service Architecture (Chief Architect) include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical leadership of geographically dispersed Network and System Engineering team focused on designing and implementing network infrastructure solutions.

  • Lead a team of Engineering Leads for Campus Area Network/Local Area Network (CAN/LAN), Wide Area Network, Network Management System, Command and Telemetry, and Access.

  • Provide coordination, decision making, guidance, and direction to the Engineering teams implementing approved secure network architecture.

  • Promote a positive collaborative environment to develop and maintain a capable technical / engineering workforce.

  • Ensure all engineering employees adhere to program and customer System Development Life Cycle requirements to improve network deployment, transition, and decommission success rate.

  • Ensure engineering team accountability of process and execution through metrics.

  • Work closely with Program Leadership to meet or exceed contractual financial and performance goals.

  • Continuously improve Engineering services through standard service offerings aligning to program Statement of Work and Network Architecture.

  • Conduct site visits, meeting with Engineering team members and customers to promote program and Engineering process improvements and solutions.

  • Facilitate coordination among and between internal and external stakeholders in support of Operations and Engineering escalations and transitions.

  • Responsible for technical evaluation of vendor and third-party solutions.

  • Assist with troubleshooting network systems when necessary and make improvements to the customers network.

  • Developing, updating, and maintaining the program Engineering organizational structure, roles and responsibilities, workflows, processes, process improvement strategy, and associated documentation.

  • Establish and maintain interoperability with service providers for multi-source/multi-service integration and management of Network Service Fulfillment requests.

  • Develop secure network designs including configurations that align with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and enterprise policies. Obtain Authority to Operate (ATO) for new devices, software, and capabilities.

  • Ensure that Engineering staffing levels can meet workload demands aligned with customer and Program financial objectives, by hiring, recruiting, onboarding, training, and retaining personnel.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of Network and Systems Engineering and customer’s mission.

Required Clearance: TS/SCI with polygraph. (#ts/sci) (#polygraph)

Required Qualifications: The candidate must have 16 years of experience that can be a combination of work history and education. This equates to a Doctorate and 8 years of experience or master’s and 10 years, or bachelor’s and 12 years, or Associates and 14 years or HS and 16 years.

  • In-depth experience and understanding of telecommunication, network and routing protocols for CAN and WAN.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills thorough knowledge of network administration and architecture across various network & vendor platforms. (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto)

  • Working in a team environment within a professional office setting.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, and multitasking.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills and ability to manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of Service Now or similar ITSM, and Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of the customer culture, customer mission and operations and the customer’s network and technology architecture and operations highly desired.

Our Technical Lead- Service Architecture (Chief Architect) (IT Systems Architect Level III) (Government) earns between $130,700 - $250,000 yearly. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
