Cedar Falls Community School District Substitute Bus Monitor in Cedar Falls, Iowa
- BASIC FUNCTION: this position provides assistance to school bus drivers in maintaining a safe environment for transportation of students by maintaining discipline and good order during loading, transit and unloading of passengers with tolerant acceptance of the reasonable natural energy and exuberance of young children and adolescents, as well as empathy and understanding for students with behavioral, cognitive or health conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists students in boarding the bus and to assigned seats.
Ensures students are restrained when required by regulation.
Assists driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured.
Ensures the bus driver is not distracted from driving safely by maintaining order and appropriate student behavior.
Intervenes as appropriate to prevent and curtail verbal or physical disputes between students.
Performs double check to assure no students remain on the bus at the end of each route or trip.
Assists students with disabilities or special needs in exiting the bus
Assists bus driver in providing verbal and or written reports to district officials related
to: student misbehavior, emotional or health related concerns, illness or injury while boarding, riding or exiting the bus; incidents with parents or members of the public which give rise to a safety concern, maintenance of good order or interfere with the efficient operation of the service.
- Maintains knowledge of and ability to perform emergency evacuation procedures, including but not limited to, administration of First Aid.

Experience Required:
Skills: ability to defuse potentially emotional or confrontational situations
Knowledge- Safe practices regarding student transportation
Ability to: maintain composure in stressful situations; treat others with respect when verbally or physically challenged; make factual descriptively accurate reports; establish and maintain productive healthy relationships with young children, adolescents and adults; lift and when necessary safely carry students who are physically impaired; communicate clear directions and instructions; establish and maintain a safe environment with tolerant acceptance of the reasonable natural energy and exuberance of young children and adolescents as well as empathy and understanding for students with behavioral, cognitive or health conditions; administer First Aid.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and or Testing Required: High school diploma or equivalent
