Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Infant/Toddler Teacher in Cass Lake, Minnesota

Division: Education Reports to: Team Leader/Center Supervisor Worksite: Early Childhood Work Hours: M - F, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm (Schedule depends upon programming needs; subject to change). LLBO Status: Non-exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes License/Certification Requirements: A Valid MN Driver's License preferred. CPR and First Aid certification or attain within introductory period. Summary: Responsible for helping to ensure that the classrooms contribute to the growth and development of each child. Duties/Responsibilities: Administrative: Engage in on-going program assessment and monitoring to ensure quality services are being provided. Assist with preparation of online weekly lesson plans, material needs, monthly newsletters, etc. Complete student records and reports accurately, reports include: running logs, observations, TSG (individual student progress information), data entry, incident/accident forms, etc. Classroom: Assist in keeping classroom sanitary, organized and inviting. Provide and deliver developmentally, culturally and linguistically appropriate learning experiences in language, literacy, mathematics, social and emotional functioning, approaches to learning, science, physical skills and creative arts. Implementing Creative Curriculum and Ojibwe Culture and language into the classroom. Promote EHS School Readiness Goals into lesson plans and daily activities. Work with Education Program Managers, Center Supervisor, Ojibwemowin Mentor, Curriculum and Data Coordinator and Practice Based Coach on recommended areas of improvement through coaching and assist with corrective action plans that reflect the individual needs of staff and/or the team. Utilize developmentally appropriate practices and guidance. Effectively mainstream children with special needs into the program and utilize Developmentally Appropriate Practices& guidance. Implement Plans for each student by using developmentally appropriate activities and modify lesson plan to children's needs. Include culture and language into the classroom activities and promote use in the home, including sign language. Have a basic understanding of how children learn a second language. Assist in conducting parent/teacher conferences in December and February. Plan appropriate activities based on each individual child's needs. Ensure supervision of all children at all times, including during outside, bathroom and tooth brushing. Attend IFSP/IEP meetings. Document and Date anecdotal notes on the needs of each child and develop an individual education plan that assesses the needs of each child, entering documentation and data into the TSG online system on weekly/biweekly basis. Complete all required TSG courses. Using the information from TSG system for planning within the classroom including the environment, indoor and outdoor activities. Maintain a healthy, emotional climate in the classroom setting. Provide a learning environment with rich adult/child interactions (CLASS). Family Support: Work with other program staff as a team to meet the needs of the families. Work together with families to help children strengthen and preserve their language and culture while acquiring skills needed to participate. Encourage involvement of families of children in ECD and support the development of relationships between children and families. Support families by sharing information on child development issues, child guidance and ECD program plans. Conduct and document a minimum of 2 home visits annually, with additional home visits as necessary. Implement activities and assess the progress of developing skills, (child outcomes and school readiness goals) with families. Attend parent meetings as scheduled. CACFP: Assist with taking daily attendance each morning. Assist Team Leader in ensuring the tally of the monthly attendance and meal counts are correct. Ensure meal count is taken at point of service and completing food production records for children under the age of I yr. Be knowledgeable i CACFP meal service, meal pattern, and menu planning and family style service. Be knowledgeable in CACFP Food Chart, portion sizes and creditable meals. Be knowledgeable in CACFP Diet Statements and Parent Decline form, have on file for participants who cannot follow the meal pattern. Be familiar with the monitoring site form and requirements. Attend CACFP annual training for key staff and refresher courses as necessary. General Responsibilities: Work cooperatively as a team member and promoting teamwork with co-workers. Follow the recommendations of Team Leader and administrative staff when program improvement is needed. Promote Early Childhood philosophy and mission statement among staff, families and communities. Attend program activities outside normal working hours. Engage in on-going assessments to ensure quality of services is being provided. Communicate effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of services provided. Attend all mandatory meetings and activities. Assist the program in any other appropriate way after necessary duties are completed. Be familiar with current Head Start Performance Standards, Early Childhood Policies and Procedures and the Leech Lake Child Care Licensing requirements. Shared general housekeeping of classroom with other staff members. Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times. Adhere to policies governing staff conduct Responsible for keeping work area neat and orderly All other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
