GAI's Power Business Unit focuses on developing and supporting Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients. As an Assistant Engineering Manager at GAI, you will have the opportunity to manage civil engineering and permitting tasks, delegate and provide direction to engineering/drafting staff, and lead and review the development of calculations, drawings, and associated project deliverables. You also will develop proposals and monitor budgets. Communication skills are essential to this position, as an Assistant Engineering Manager will need to effectively coordinate with internal and external clients as well as their Engineering Division Manager, Business Sector Leader, and other engineering discipline leads (such as mechanical, electrical, process, environmental, and geotechnical engineering). Job Duties: Plans, designs, and facilitates civil engineering project design tasks such as site grading and drainage design; access road design; erosion and sediment pollution control design; stormwater management design; report preparation; and permitting. Task management duties include being in responsible charge of technical work, staff planning, budget/schedule management, scope change management, quality assurance/peer reviews, report writing, staff mentorship, and client coordination. Proposal preparation including the scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination. In addition to proposal preparation, written communication may include the preparation of site reports, narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums. Collaborate with other engineering leads to schedule resource and QA/QC peer reviews. Independently conduct field condition assessments. Performance of bid and construction phase services including responding to bidder questions, responding to contractor requests for information, and submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation. A current, valid driver's license is required. Ohio Professional Engineering License required. P.E. license in other states is a plus. Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings. Staff Management Duties: Planning, mentoring, and coaching junior-level engineering, drafting, and field staff, as well as hiring and recruiting. Leading, and training staff to perform field visits to client sites to obtain photos, and physical measurements, view site conditions, inspect E&S and Stormwater Management BMPs, and perform infiltration testing. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements of this position include hiking moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc. in various temperatures and weather conditions. There is a potential for hazardous conditions during fieldwork or site visit situations. This position requires lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working at heights over 25 ft. Personal Protection Equipment is required during hazardous conditions.
