What you’ll do:
This position is responsible for projects involving the construction of transportation infrastructure including but not limited to highways, streets, bridges, rail and building facilities. Determine that construction conforms to plans and specifications. Inspect each stage of construction up to completion. Interpret plans, specifications, and codes. Verify contract work is performed in accordance with all applicable governing codes and regulations. Monitor construction sites for safety violations. Perform basic civil engineering calculations associated with survey, materials and forces. Prepare reports on labor, material, and equipment on site. Maintain daily activity logs and reports with photographs.
How you’ll leave your mark:
Review or prepare interim progress reports for contractor payments. Monitor contractor-testing activities. Prepare Non-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to the approved standards. Conduct quality surveillance of specific quality-related activities as necessary. Assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with agency’s safety rules, policies, and procedures. Provide Construction Safety and Security field services, as directed, including but not limited to Site Safety and Security Reviews including for Construction Equipment, Personnel, Work Procedures and Traffic Control. Coordinate preparation of inspection survey reports, cost estimates and maintenance records and timely submittals of these reports and records. Arrange and coordinate technical inspections such as electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, and asphalt mixes, and reinforcing steel for conformance to specification requirements. Assist Geotechnical Engineer or the Engineering Management Support Services Contractor in the collecting, interpreting, analyzing and presenting geotechnical and survey monitoring data. Coordinate laboratory activities and compare verifications test results with result from Contractor’s laboratory. Travel to various unanticipated locations in the U.S. to interact with clients and inspect transportation project worksites on short- or long-term assignments.
What you’ll Bring:
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely-related discipline, valid California Professional Engineer licensure in Civil Engineering, ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I certification, certification in ball penetration, and certification in bridge profilograph. Requires two years of transportation engineering experience, including projects specifically related to bridge construction, as well as experience with Primavera P6, AutoCAD, and Microstation. Requires knowledge of stress analysis; strength of materials; uses of construction materials; methods, materials and equipment used in construction and maintenance of transportation structures; surveying; and the methods of proportioning and handling Portland cement concrete. Salary offered: $129,064 - $149,760.
