Jacobs Intermediate Bridge Engineer in Calgary, Alberta

Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, competently perform Bridge/Structural Engineering analysis and design:
With guidance and direction, develop problem-solving skills, judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Develop knowledge of principles and practices of lateral analysis and design (wind and seismic), including ability to apply required provisions of the design codes.
Pay a high level of attention to detail & quality control, commit to checking your own work.
Perform checking of structural calculations by others.
Take responsibility for managing workload, make/keep commitments, and take full ownership work:
Take complete ownership of your assignment (scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements).
For any given tasks with ill-defined conditions of satisfaction, take the initiative to determine what is needed to meet the project and client needs.
Define your own scope and develop ability to forecast level of effort needed to complete that scope.
Be ready to identify scope change and escalate it to your Design/Structural Lead.
Recognize when help is needed, reaching out to peers and senior engineers for guidance.
Work in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner with strong attention to detail.
Task/Assignment Lead: limited small to medium-size projects
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work hours should align with the needs of the team and project(s).
Hybrid work includes working in the local office in accordance with the team schedule. Attendance at in-person meetings is expected when scheduled as such.
You may be asked to work in other offices/project sites (including Temporary Duty Assignments).
Occasional business travel may be required.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis in Structural Engineering)
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
Minimum 2 years of experience in bridge/structural engineering design.
Excellent written/verbal communication skills & Strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
MS degree in Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering
Experience in design and analysis of conventional concrete and steel bridge/structures including retaining walls and sign structures.
Experience with WSDOT BridgeLink (PGSuper, PGSplice, XBRate, Barlist), LPILE, spColumn, CSiBridge, SAP2000 or similar structural analysis and design software
Experience with MS Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation and Bluebeam
General Training and Experience
Requires specific knowledge and experience in own discipline.
Still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills.
Developing knowledge of the company, processes and customers.
General Nature of Work
Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures and tools.
Performs a range of straightforward problems and assignments.
General Level of Supervision
- Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.
