Who We Are:  CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

LEAP aims to increase positive outcomes by promoting family and community acceptance of LGBTQ+ youth and creating safer, healthier spaces for LGBTQ+ youth and the adults in their lives. With a dedicated focus on Black and Latinx communities in Brooklyn and Queens, LEAP promotes family and community acceptance through educational presentations for schools, organizations, and community groups; parent support groups; individual and family counseling and conflict mediation; a social marketing campaign; and a youth filmmaking program.

Position: Film Teacher Consultant (1099 Independent Contractor)

Reports To: Program Manager

What The Film Teacher Does:

• Plan, develop and conduct a 6-to-8-week filmmaking course for 8 LGBTQ+ participants between 15 and 18 years old;

• Partner with LEAP team and work directly with LEAP’s Program Manager;

• Build relationships and mentor students while enrolled in program;

• Develop students in completing a fully realized final short film;

• Plan and conduct a showcase/screening event at the end of the workshops for youth to show their films;

• Provide guidance on applying for entry into film festivals and other professional opportunities;

• Work with group dynamics to model and encourage positive youth behaviors; and

• Other film related services as necessary.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in studio art with a concentration in film, or equivalent; Masters preferred

Other Requirements:

• Hold professional liability insurance and/or general liability insurance.

• Experienced as a practicing artist/filmmaker;

• Knowledge of all aspects of filmmaking;

• Experience with micro budget filmmaking and/or using minimal tech;

• Experience working with iPhones/iPads;

• Experience working with LGBTQ+ youth;

• Excellent written and oral communication skills;

• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within and outside the classroom; and; a passion for filmmaking

• Prior successful experience working with middle and high school students; and familiarity with Filmic Pro App and iMovie/CapCut

Compensation: $8,000 - $10,000 (Paid on a Form 1099)

Status: Temporary (3 Months)
