Job Description:

Principal Electrical Engineers – Controls

Job duties:

  • Collaborate with various engineering teams to design, model, simulate, and implement innovative control algorithms for our products.

  • Execute a lead role in the design, modeling, and simulation of advance control algorithms.

  • Develop, analyze, maintain, and document control system architecture.

  • Use modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.

  • Collaborate with Hardware and Firmware Engineers to optimize and implement next-generation control algorithms.

  • Peer review software and controls designs/source code.

  • Lead and mentor the team in engineering best practices including task management, root cause analysis, and control algorithm development. May manage team members.

  • Innovate control solutions to meet the needs of the business.

  • Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and HIL test equipment to validate control algorithms.

  • Track projects to ensure adherence to schedule and Milwaukee Tool’s processes.

  • Schedule, develop agendas for, facilitate, and document technical meetings and formal presentations.

  • Develop and apply manufacturing mindset to designs to effectively and efficiently mass produce power tools.

  • Acquire knowledge and maintain an understanding of Milwaukee Tool’s development and manufacturing processes.

Job Requirements:

Master’s or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field and 5 years of relevant design experience or Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field and 7 years of relevant design experience. Experience must include:

  • Model-based control development utilizing design tools, such as MATLAB/Simulink.

  • Closed loop control theory, vector control, and pulse width modulation techniques.

  • Control loop tuning and stability analysis.

  • Developing fault detection and mitigation algorithms for single phase and/or three phase power systems.

  • MATLAB/Simulink model-based design workflow, code generation and automated testing.

  • Integrating model-based generated code with software/firmware modules.

  • Developing plant models to simulate physical systems.

  • Reading power electronics schematics and component data sheets.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally 10% of the time required.

Partial weekly work from home is allowed on a regular basis.
