YAI Maintenance Worker in Bronx, New York

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Routinely assesses facility equipment and structures to identify necessary maintenance and repairs to maintain safe and operable conditions.

  • Troubleshoots minor maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repair or replacement for assigned programs.

  • Completes routine and emergency repairs to equipment, fixtures, fittings and building systems for assigned programs based on MRFs; escalates more complex repairs to management.

  • Promptly communicates all facility maintenance issues with the program supervisor or designee.

  • Purchases supplies, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects.

  • Maintains a work area that is clean and organized; ensures tools and equipment are safe, clean, and in good working condition.

  • Moves furniture, deliveries, packages, and other large items as required.

  • Tracks and reports completed tasks and assignments.

  • Reports repairs and all hazardous conditions to management on a timely basis.

  • Responds quickly in the event of an emergency, notifies appropriate management, and follows safety protocols.

  • Travels between various YAI facilities and supply stores (i.e., Home Depot, local hardware store, etc.) to purchase and/or transport supplies or to complete additional assignments, as directed.

  • May operate YAI motor vehicle to transport materials or tools, particularly in areas with limited public transportation or when transporting large items.

  • Attends job training and safety programs as required.

  • Adheres to company policies, safety regulations and OSHA requirements.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

  • High school diploma or GED and

  • Six (6) months related experience, including minor repairs and use of tools and equipment; and

  • Ability to perform designated responsibilities including lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; using power driven and regular hand tools, bending, crouching, kneeling and standing, working confined spaces, working outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions.

  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools, common appliances, and devices.

  • Ability to work independently, organized, and able to multitask.

Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

  • Valid NY State Driver's License highly preferred for assignments in areas with limited public transportation.

  • Basic knowledge and awareness of ID/DD, including knowledge of their unique environmental needs.
